Do other's have a squeaky hatch?
I would imagine this is somewhat common. Its pretty typical in hatchback cars in general, but i have a somewhat annoying squeak when going up and down driveways coming from the rear. Just curious if others owners notice this as well.
Otherwise is there any method for tightening up the hatch or lubing the hinges or something that would eliminate a squeak if others think its a problem specific to my car?

My 81 used to squeak until I replace the lock unit, top and bottom. Plastic pieces break apart in there. A little duct tape helped for a while.

Mine is absolutely quiet but makes noise when driving into my driveway. I have to drive in at a 45 degree angle, so I don't scratchthe front spoiler. The sqeaking comes from the body flex and is normal.
If it squeaks while driving on normal roads or highway, you have an adjustment issue on your rear hatch. Worn out hatch weatherstripping or missing teflon tape also contribute to a noisy hatch.

There are teflon tape strips which go on the painted hatch where the side rubber blocks rub on the hatch. Also as mentioned the hatch reciever should have a clear rubber liner to help locate the upper black lock post.

Mine squeaks too. I put teflon opposite the rubber feet, but nothing. It certainly seems like the latch pulls it snug...Also, my latch all seems to be intact. ???

The rubber wedges turn to mush after 20 years and the adhesive film between the rubber wedge and the lid may be missing.
You may need to replace these inexpensive parts:
qty P/N
2 928.512.057.02 wedge guide
2 928.512.531.02 adhesive film
But check the lock retaining bolts on the lid for looseness first.

I found that using a little silicone lubricant from a spray can, rubbed onto the rubber weatherstripping, and on the other areas of contact between the hatch and the rest of the car helped a lot.

yeah that would make sense, the squeak i think is from the rubber itself, why it does squesk is cause the hatch flexes independantely of the chassis, so i think if you lubricate the rubber seal it would reduce the noise.
BUT DONT USE SILICON ON RUBBER!
there are other lubricants for this, actually someone markets a lube just for rubber seals. but dotn use silicon that will dry it out in the long run.

I used di-electric grease to lube it all.
wiped everything down about a month later while doing a good
wash and wax.
No break down of the seals/blocks (yet) after two years.
No squeaks either.
