Norm, others who have done this, I am about to remove my hood leaving the hinges on the hood, BUT, the rear bolt on the passenger sided won't clear the blower motor! I backed it out as far as possible but the head of the bolt hits the blower motor and it feels like the bolt still has a couple of threads in the captive nut. Did you force the bolt out, unbolt the blower motor??? Seems like others have removed the hinge from the body leaving it atached to the hood....Why me!!
What is the solution to removing the hinge bolt from the body next to the blower motor? I want to replace my hinge with a newly plated hinge, but this bolt is stopping me.
if the bolt fouls the fan motor then the fan motor will have to come out. There are three bolts holding the motor in place two are accessed from the top and one is accessed through the passenger footwell. Getting at it is very tricky. I cut the cast in plastic mesh to get acess then it was a doddle- some will doubtless frown at such but I can easily replace such with a 3D printed screen if I want to. I understand that bolt can be accessed without modification but I could not fathom out how to do it so made life simple for myself.
When I’ve removed hood in past I did it at hinge and marked original position (it was a surprise when shims fell out!) so not speaking from experience, but is there room to cut off bolt head when it’s unwound a few threads, or grind off in position in photo, and replace with one slightly shorter?
By the time I get to them, the hoods never are aligned to suit me anyway. I leave the hinges alone in most cases. Some cars did have hood shims. Don't be surprised if they spill out.
We didn't have the hood off the Guards Red 5-speed we just did, yet the owner found hood shims beside the blower motor a little while after completion. His car really didn't need them.
If anyone has these shims that does not want or need them, I am happy to take them off your hands.
Here's how I got the bolt at the blower motor out.
I start with a box end wrench and back the bolt out until I can barely sneak the wrench out. Then I use the open end to loosen the bolt to the point I can can spin it out by hand.
