Default Questions about TQ TUBE

Took the inspection cover off today to look at the flex plate...everything looks good...BUT...at first glance thier seemed to be a geared wheel at the back , befor the TQ shaft went into its housing...rides on bearings but has a rubber gears...relized that this should be locked into place as a carier for the shaft.. Q : should it move foward (thiers even a gouged in the aluminum housing way foward of where i think it should lock into place..
2nd Q: could this be a cause of a bad vibration?
I did find out that the drivers side motor mount is wasted!!!!
Info...81 auto.

The front TT bearing should be at least 6 and closer to 10-12 inches down inside the TT housing. Anything substantially more or less will cause the shaft to vibrate. And this is just the front one. The rear and center may have migrated as well.

so i should move it further back....but befor i do that is thier a way to measure were the others are, i could move this bearing foward and get a tape measurer inside. what would be the first thing the tape should hit? and how much distance should thier be from the front?

i will try and figure out some info from the manuals i have on disc.
Thanks for the info Bill.

The 3 speed only has two bearings and the front one is 6-8 inchs back the tube is probably not the problem. If one of the motor mounts is torn that sure could let the engine flop around under load.
