Just wanted to bump this thread - i believe i have all the parts I need either here or on the way from 928 Specialists. I will be getting a few other odds and ends prior to heading out.
Chris - I am picking up the trailer on Friday night and will put the car on it then. I will be heading out a little after 7 Sat. morning and will plan to be at your place around 8 so we can dive right into both of our cars
Can't wait! (I think?) LOL

So is this the Official/Un-Official NOVA Watercooled GTG for AUG then? It looks like most of us will be there.
It's about time for me to post the time and location.
As to the jack question, I will bring my adaptor/plate/thingy JIK.

Ok, so we are a go for Sat. August 5th. I got worried reading Bill's post about putting his car on the trailer. Are you taking your 928 to Chris this weekend the 22nd, two weeks in advance of the TB/WP gtg?

Sorry Bill - I meant that Friday the 4th for getting the car on a trailer Important detail! I am not comfortable driving it with the warning light on, and I will probably leave some components off after the TB/WP job on the 5th since I will be taking it home and doing a full intake refresh as well.

Bill, thanks for the clarification. I've got all the parts for the intake refresh, but will wait until the first hard freeze. I'll powder coat or paint at the same time. We could do an intake refresh party too.

Chris,
Do you have all the torque wrenches Dr. Bob recommended? I don't personally own any, but you will need them - don't forget. You might be able to rent them. Still not sure I'll make it, but if I do, I'll help with the parts cleaning and tagging, and some of the photography.

The day is approaching
I'm looking forward to this event, and am preparing the neighbors..
It sounds like we will have several TB jobs going at one time, so please step forward if would like to be one of the team leads that works with a checklist and asks an expert to sign off on each step.
I'm not sure how many experts we will have either, so please speak up if you have enough experience to act as a Subject Matter Expert for all of part of the processes we will perform.
Luckily, a friend of mine is professional Project Manager who lives nearby and has owned a 928 longer than I. His name is Dave and he is interested in co-hosting this event by sharing in the food and refreshment costs and helping us keep the projects organized.
If possible, please label your tools and make a list of which ones you bring. Let's have a good time and get these TB/WP jobs done with the least stress.
Oh, and we'll have beer so plan your schedule accordingly with safety in mind. I have a good floor jack that a tea-sipper should take charge of, along with the setting and removing of jack stands and ramps. We don't want any injuries or DUI's.

Tool Management
Chris--
Good point on tool management. There are a few things like torque wrenches and the big socket for the crank bolt that you'll just need one of for a couple cars. The common stuff like sockets/wrenches/ratchets/screwdrivers should be managed on a per-car basis if possible.
We did two cars at once, and one of the vic's had a toolkit-in-a-box with almost all of the common stuff he needed. We ended up mailing a couple sockets back and forth the week after the TB party here in SoCal.
I'm thinking that next time I do this, we'll have separate tables for each car to keep the parts and tools completely isolated. Even with the "tool table" system, it still seems like there are potentials for mixups, but at least they will be limited.
From my own little TB project a year ago, here's a shot of the tools I used:
(this is a low-res frame-grab from the dr bob frankenstien how-to video for 32V 928 masochists-in-training)

I will bring the 3/4" ratchet, crank socket, short extension, 36" cheater bar, couple of torque wrenches, 1/4" drive socket/ratchet set, 3/8" drive set, 19, 17, 13, 10mm combo wrenches, Allen wrenches, red nail polish, permenant markers for cam sprockets.
Good idea to have a separate area for each car. Be nice to have some cup cake baking tins (throwaway aluminum ones) for parts as they come off, masking tape, pens to label things..
Drain the coolant, pull the hoses the night before if possible. Disconnect the fan wiring harnesses from below.
I'll bring my marked up Pirtle checklist/instructions, plus a new clean set.
Chris, do you have a laptop with wireless access? How about the WSM? If not, I can bring my laptop with WSM and PET.

My house is set up with wireless hi-speed Internet access, but my laptop belongs to work and my wife's has a bad battery so it only works when plugged into an AC socket.
I will start sending directions out today via PM. I don't think I can send one message to the group so let me know if I somehow miss anyone on this list.
We have enough plastic tubs to sort each car's parts, but I'll keep an eye out for cupcake tins this week.
Let me know if someone wants to fill one of these roles:
Floor Jack Toolhand - One tea-sipper to make sure each car is lifted safely and properly secured on jack stands. You may rely on a Subject Matter Expert for lifiting points if needed.
Project Managers - One at each car - will carry checklist and bring a Subject Matter Expert over for help as needed.
Subject Matter Experts - Let me know if you are experienced with each of the following tasks, or if I should add anything to this list. Experience often teaches a trick to make everything a little easier and we value your opinion.
-Lift points and best practices for raising and lowering each vehicle
-Removal of fans and radiator
-Removal of timing covers or waterpump or accessory belts
-Marking Timing gears before removal
-Removal of Tensioner
-Rebuild of Tensioner
-Installation of waterpump
-Installation of Timing gears
-Installation of Timing Belt
-Adjustment of Timing Belt
-Re-assembly of timing covers
-Re-installation and adjustment of accessory belts
-Re-installation of hoses or fans or radiator
-Startup best practices & troubleshooting tips
-Test drive best practices (is there a break-in period, etc?)
