Now that's funny! You, buy what would surely be an expensive 928? Is that even in your DNA? Thought you were/are so opposed to resellers and high prices.

Brian,

I was thinking the VIN# could be useful to those living around the globe in checking w/their local DMV office for this shark…London, Paris, Saudi and other far away lands. Private collections have already been suggested. Maybe a little "ahem’ I can’t say but I know its still around" would even be OK for now. I have not checked yet but who was the selling party? Champion? And wonder what records are available on the purchasing party?

How about Porsche car clubs around the world keeping all eyes open....It would be a cool common goal here to find this car.

Now that's funny! You, buy what would surely be an expensive 928? Is that even in your DNA? Thought you were/are so opposed to resellers and high prices.
Chuck Z…

Yes, my DNA is quite the cocktail and full of surprises. Honestly, I have enjoyed debating both you and the others on GTS resale values and I would hope future discussions can continue to be done in a civil matter But I know you or I have no intentions of turning this thread into one of those 'threads'

However, I’m not stupid…this next to last example should be preserved and command the highest of prices. Perhaps even above and beyond its original MSRP. Plus, it would drive you nuts knowing I had it… Just kidding…honestly I kid!

...... you are a very contradictory individual (with loads of smiley faces these days). This is so far off from your normal opinion/aurgument I'm not sure what to say so in the interest of civility I will say nothing. Until the next value debate....

I have looked for the Pearlglanz......& it appears to be lost...... Others have spent more time and effort than I have to end up with the same result!!! However if it was found with low mileage (say 5K)...it surely would go for top dollar.....it last sold for $74K......it should fetch at least that much now!

I don't know about you, but if I spent a large sum of money buying a car, I sure as hell wouldn't want the seller to give out ANY information about me. If they did, you can rest assured they'd be talking to my attorney. You aren't going to get anywhere with Champion on this.

As far as the idea of tracking it down, it's a noble one, but let's face it, there is more interest on this one forum IMO, than you're going to muster up with people around the world. Sure, it would be worth an article in Panorama, but I don't think there'd be a lot of fanfare in "Porsche clubs around the world". We here on Rennlist's 928 board love these cars a lot more than most others do.

I don't remember where I heard it, but it was said this car ended up in France sometime after it was purchased. I may be incorrect.

I was told this story by a salesman at Champion Porsche. A guy who invented filters for cameras came while they had it on consignment from the first owner and loved it. Reportedly he bought it and had it shipped to France. That is the last anyone ever heard of the car.

Could have been the inventor of the Cokin filter system Jean Coquin. He is French. http://www.cokin.co.uk/pages/main.htm

In 1995 this car had a tape deck and cost $171K. Then again, in 1945 the Germans thought horses were a perfectly acceptable tool for transporting equipment when everyone else was in jeeps.

It actually sold twice. First time to a guy in FL who bought it for his mother to drive (that's where the 3k miles came from) for ~$105k and the second time to a guy from France for $74k. Both times the car was sold by Champion Porsche. The second owner reportedly exported the car to France (according to the folks at Champion shortly after they sold it the second time) and as we all know it has not been seen since.
