I wonder how big fuel cell they had since they ran for 90 minutes between refueling!

That's a great article, thanks!

It's of particular interest because my car was originally owned by Derek Bell. I believe it may have been given to him by Porsche a few months before he won the Le Mans 24hr for the Fifth time.

I wonder what oiling system modifications Raymond Boutinaud made to his engines as the cars did not experience a 2/6 episode during either of the 24 Hour du Mans.

I have driven the circuit in my 928GT and it is not a particularly punishing circuit. It has only one tight right corner at the end of the Mulsanne straight, which can potentially cause problems, but you slow right down to second gear so I guess the speed is not enough to cause high G-forces, which would splash the oil around the pan. He also ran with the 16v EURO S2 engine, which is far less prone to 2/6 failures as proved by the three 928s Euro S (CIS) running in the HSCC club series in the UK...

I have read this before, not sure anymore in english or French.
it is interesting how they casually mention boosting the engine to 350hp without giving a clue how; I would love to know that for my motor.

There is a web site or two
http://raymond.boutinaud.free.fr/
http://www.alliancefr.com/boutinaud/pages/index2.htm
the second one with a foto of a 16v 928 motor.
he also raced the 928 at Spa, silverstone & brands hatch; look at http://wsrp.ic.cz/wsc1984.html
I assume it is the same guy? maybe somebody from france could ask him what he did to the motor (if he remembers...)?

Martin.."casually mention boosting the engine to 350hp " Most likely headers and exhaust and some optimism

Oi, do you want to be scared at the Ring again in my 928S2 5spd this time? You know my views on the 16v - love them to bits, especially when mated to a proper box - 5spd

I'm not sure about the headers but I agree with the two others items.
In 1983, there was a side exhaust (on the right of the car). In 1984, it was straight at the back of the car.

By the way, it was an S, not an S2.

I hope to see this car in action in the future.
