That is the thermal switch that activates the fan.

why not use the one at the bottom of the radiator that comes on all 928s. on the later versions, you just buy the early switch and screw it in there.
this way, your fans dont come on too early, as the bottom of the radiator has to get hot before the engine is truely hot.

Its just that ive never seen a switch like that on a 928 before.

What kind of switch is on the bottom of the later cars, Mark?

What MY has the desirable switch?

My 928s already have them and they are used to turn on the AC fan. So if I remember correctly rather than have both fans running off the same switch, wiring, etc, Carl decided to set it up with its' own switch and fused power source.

I investigated that stock thermal switch and it draws very low voltage, and not enough to engage a standard relay. Perhaps the earlier switch Mark is refering to would?

the switch that mark is refering to I believe is a ground cut, so when it gets upto temp it supplies ground to the fans, so yes it would activate a relay without an issue

Exactly!!

Which is the way the new one functions, but by having two then at least one of them will work if the other happens to die, I'll still have at least one fan functioning.
