Ahhhh.... you got to see the Allman Bros??? Oh man, I grew up on their music!!! I'd love to see those guys again sometime, been 20+ years! I have a g.hits cd I listen to all the time!!!!!!! Good ole southern rock! Lucky you!!!!!

Oh yeah Todd, the seller was completely fine with you giving out his name/# cause I asked him on your behalf since you had those concerns. He said it was okie dokie with him. He just sent me some more pics since the 1st set didnt show the whole car in them. Noticed it has a black rear wing instead of a painted to match red one?? Specially painted black? or was their an accident at some point perhaps?? was it black or red when you owned it in the past??

Maybe he is including a 'finders fee'
It's not a 'smoking deal' until a PPI has been done.

Sounds to me like he jacked the price when people started calling and showing interest.

Guys....... stop being so skeptical.... I don't believe its the case at all. Seller told me last night on the phone that his asking price was actually $25k, but had told Todd that his absolute bottom line would be $20k before he'd not sell the car & keep it. He also stated that he was selling it cause he was moving in Sept. & he had a few months to field buyers, so I'd say time is on his side. Especially since he has multiple potential buyers right now, which is understandable.

I agree, if the car checks out, its an incredible deal even at $25k, much less if someone gets it for $20k!!! Even at $25k with some additional $$ floated to Todd as a thank you for putting us on to it would be at the low end of what I've seen GTS's going for! Other than the recent black GTS from the NW that sold for $28k, I sure can't think of any recently being priced below $30k that only had 93k miles on them!

Todd did us a favor by telling about the car. Thats another thing that makes this forum so great. As long as Rennlist, buyer, seller & Todd are ok with the situation, there's nothing wrong with Todd suggesting his "finder's fee". If the buyer doesn't want to send him any $$ as a Thank You, then thats for them to decide. Let's don't "shoot the messenger" guys cause then people just might decide not to post about cars they know of for sale due to any potential scrutiny they might face.

Are you sure he's not getting anything from the owner for settign up a sale? Car dealers don't do ANYTHING for free! If there wasn't any money in it for him, do you think he would have posted?

You know what, if I can convince my wife to like the red color & the car checked out & I bought it for somewhere between $20k & $25K WHAT DO I CARE who made what on the deal??? Come on guys..... please get past that point.... sounds like jealousy or being nosy. Most of us seem to sell them for less than what we paid, AFTER we've spent a ton of $$ on them!

I happen to know of two other Rennlisters who've just recently purchased 928s, then turned right around & resold them for a profit, with that being their full intentions all along. If the buyer was happy with the car at the price they paid, what difference does it make?? These weren't "car dealers", they were fellow Rennlisters the same as any of us, but they sure made money on the deals. If I was the buyer & was happy with the car & what I paid for it, do I care??

I spoke to someone at SITM that had bought a car from Wilhoit, who I've heard some trash here on Rennlist. He said the guy was super nice, took care of him & treated him very well, he was happy with everything about the transaction, car, etc. Had he bought the car from someone with a different day job that made the same profit that Wilhoit made, would that of been any different??? I just dont see the point in bashing someone cause they are a dealer if that is the case. I read Todd's first post as basically, "pay me something if you want to", not "give me your credit card #s & I'll give you the seller's info"........ So whoever buys the car feels so compelled, then don't give Todd any money for helping you find a great price on a GTS(assuming again the car checks out).

If that car does check out & someone ends up buying it for $20k, thats a Heck of a deal. Just as Todd said he would of done if he could have, he would of purchased the car back for himself. Whether he kept it or resold it. There are many here that might buy such a car at $20k & then turn around & attempt to resell it at a higher price, again, regardless of what their day job is! I don't know Todd, but it sure seems like he was making a great gesture to all of us. Now if the car was listed at $35-$40k & he expected or demanded a finder's fee, then I can see the point of that being a bit of a stretch of a request. There are more than enough GTS that will come along at that price range.

Bottom line to me is, if one of us gets a GTS for $20-$25k & is happy with the car & the money they've spent, even if Todd ended up making money from BOTH the buyer AND the seller, then it shouldn't really matter, should it??

Todd gave me plenty of advice and help for free when I was looking for a new 928 and I don't understand some people's need to bash him or discount his efforts.

I don't think it even matters if he was getting something from the buyer and seller on this deal or any deal, as long as it was a good deal for both. $25k for a moderate mileage GTS is a pretty good deal, and $20k is a smoking deal, pending PPI of course. With this information coming from somone that sells these cars for part of his living, I would think this car would pass a PPI with flying colors, otherwise his reputation as a 928 broker/sell would be tarnished and I think he's sharper than that.

I do have to ask, though, where was this deal 2 months ago when I was in the market?

Darn Brett, probably the same scenario I'd mention to you about that 1990 Linen 928!! I LOVE that color, had it on my 1990 911, with the linen interior too! How long ago did you sell it?? Curious too what the interior color is?? Course, not that I was in the market two months ago, or even 2 years ago, seems both my 928 purchases have been more of impulse when I ran across the car. Keep thinkin one day if I "run across" either a 1989 or 1990 Linen 928 for sale & all the stars line up, I'd sure love to own one!

Yes, I really liked the linen grey exterior too. It had black interior with the extra leather option. I sold it a couple weeks ago to Rod Underwood. He's trying to resurrect it after piston/valve intercourse.

"I happen to know of two other Rennlisters who've just recently purchased 928s, then turned right around & resold them for a profit, with that being their full intentions all along."

I for one, sold my 93 GTS I bought six months earlier for a 3000 loss... the car wasn't worth what I paid for it IMHO, and to another Rennlister it went for a more correct price...

I certainly have no problem with the buying & reselling of 928s, by dealers, or otherwise. I am selling my gold 928 & am in the same situation as you Jason. Not quite so dramatic on the sticker price difference, but once you add in the other moneys spent, it definately would not qualify as a smart investment from a pure investment perspective. But so goes the ownership of these great cars I guess. Perhaps all the more reason to have respect for those who can buy & sell them at a profit.

low miler. Glad your still around.
Always the keener with the 928's.

Hopefully in the future you can find me a decently priced vehicle.
I would be more than happy to pay you a finders fee.
Regards.

Thanks for all the support from most of you guys. I always try and defend myself here, but I'm just a good guy that sells great 928's when I can. In this case, I couldn't afford to, came across a great deal and decided to pass it on to others that share my same passion for these cars.

And no, I don not know the seller or have any affiliation with him whatsoever. Yes, the car happens to have belonged to me at one time 6 years ago, but come on. Where do some of you even come up with such hostile and negative smear campaigns? Some people are just good people. Others, for whatever reason, are constantly negative people.

Try thinking positively and you'll live a much happier life.

FYI guys,

If this is the GTS in Canada the seller was supposed to "export" the car with U.S customs when he brought the car into Canada. He should have taken the title & bill of sale into Customs and then they clear the title to make sure it is not stolen or has any leans on it.

The Seller DID NOT DO THIS. When someone try's to import the car back into the U.S it will show as still being registered in the USA. This will raise Red flags with Customs and they will impound the car.

The seller still has it titled with an Indiana title. He is willing to bring the car down to Seattle to close the deal. The car is still a U.S. car and the transaction will take place on U.S. soil. No problem.

I talked with Chris and saw this car here in Canada.

It looked great - as did his other two 928's

I am still thinking of picking it up - maybe???

Chris told me that all work on this car was done in a local shop and he would provide information on this vehicle or allow a PPI if requested.

He seems like a very nice 928 owner who is selling not because he wants to.
