Question Auto Slips 3-4

Hi All,

My '85 Euro Auto slips or "flares" between 3 & 4. All other functions are OK.

My question is, is this likely to be an issue with clutch packs or is it gonna be a servo or an accumlator leaking.

Cheers,

Robbie A.

If your clutch is slipping during a 3rd to 4th up shift you could have three things wrong:
1.Incorrect modulating pressure
2.Damaged shift valve housing
3.Damaged inner clutch K2 plating

hope this helps

Mine is slipping from 2nd to 3rd. Can I fix it with the transmission in the car?

I know the feeling

I'm currently getting flare 1-2 and 2-3 only at high rpm... It actually slides into each gear while the shifter is fully aft (1st). I'm really leaning towards vacuum. Just need to find a way to check psi during boost conditions.

At normal driving rpm, it shifts as advertised...

WSM Automatic/Gears, Valve Body page 38-112. Troubleshooting states:

Condition: Transmission slips during 3rd/4th shift.

Cause/Correction:

1. Check modulating pressure, adjust if necessary.
2. Replace shift valve housing
3. Relace inner plates of clutch K 2. Repair clutch depending on findings.

Pizza,
Flare between 2nd and 3rd shift.

WSM:
condition:
Transmission slips during 2nd/3rd shift, or slips at first and takes up hard.

Cause/Corrections:
1. Check modulating pressure, adjusting if necessary.
2. Check whether temperature ofifice is installed (see removing and installing lower cover on page 38-131).
3. Relpace shift vlave housing.
4. Replace inner plates of cluthc K 1. Repair cluthc depending on findings.

There is possibly an easy fix for this situation by the fitting of an K 1 Accumulator Spring Kit.

The spring kit (part number 126 270 44 77) from you Mercedes Benz Spare Parts Supplier at around $10.00.

This means that you have to drop the pan to expose the valve body.

I just Googled Mecedes Benze 722.3 automatic transmission repair and it yielded the full description at the web site: http://articles.mbz.org/transmission/k1/

How about adjusting the 1-2, WOT shift? I just replaced all vacuum lines and it didn't changed the shifting. 1-2 WOT is 4900-5000, 2-3 goes to 5900-6000 like it should. Shifts are firm, only want to raise the 1-2 shift.

MightyVac at 15 on the rear-to-the-modulator hose yielded 15 that fell roughly 2 pounds per second until 5 or 6 where it slowed down. Should the rear hold 15 rock solid or should it fall (car not running)?

The vacuum modulator should hold vacuum with the car not running. Put another tight hose directly on the modualtor to determine if it is the modulator or the hose. The hose has three sections (rubber - metal - rubber).
