Most of us will have NFC about what what you are asking...
Other cars, as in rest of world, or Porsche, or the same year as yours.. and good luck finding any in a scrap yard.
Post the year, etc, of your car, and someone might be able to help.

Doesn't an 84 have ABS? I thought ABS cars used the ABS signals. Early cars have the sending unit for speedo pulses inside the transaxle, but it's more common for the wire connector in the spare tire compartment to get corroded and interrupt the signal. I couldn't find it with a quick browse through PET.

All 928 use same transmission sender unit up to midlle of '90 model year IIRR. Having ABS or not don't make a difference. Don't know if any other cars use same unit.

Later model GTS uses ABS signal from one of the front wheels to monitor speed

its a mercedes transmission soldent ther be a mercedes car with the unit on it or another porsche with the same unit i was looking at parts and i think some of the 944 used the same one i tryed unpluging it and pluging it back in (10 times lol) so im thinking that its the sending unit itsself i have a 84 928 and it is the pulse sensor

Skywurz, only the 4-speed trannies are Mercs and even their differential housings are Porsche. I'd guess it's a 928 only part unless you can find it on a 944 or an Audi.

Very few Euro 84s have ABS, which I think is just a generic Bosch add-in system.

"Find the Bosch part number and match it up."

Famous quote...

N!

PS: NO '84's left the factory with ABS. It was an option on ROW cars starting in the '85 model year.

Gee, I guess the ABS on my car and the details of it in the WSM are a figment of my (and everybody who has seen my car) imagination.

Removing and installing
1. Flip up cover of Central Electrical System in

2. With the ignition off, pull out and insert

with overvoltage protection).
Note
The relay is located in the lower row of the
Central Electrical-System.
Initial-version (up to end of MY-‘84 Relay No. Xl (arrow).
The top of the relay is fitted with a 10 amps
fuse insert (little fuse) that protects the ABS
circuit.

Modified version
(MY ‘85 to MY ‘89) Relay No. XVII
Starting with MY ‘85, the fuse is no longer
located inside the relay but rather in the
Central Electrical System.
This fuse carries
the reference no. 16. It also is a 10 A fuse
insert (little fuse).
Page 45-6 also has a picture of an 84 Euro CE panel with the ABS relay installed and the 84 Euro ABS relay seperate. If you look at the 84 ROW wiring diagrams, Relay XI is for ABS. I lifted this picture from page 24-110 for my fuse relay diagram. (Photoshopped to remove lines pointing to LH/EZF-related relays, connector, and fuse.) The relay with the fuse on top in the center is the MY '84 ABS relay.

Thank you for playing.

Thanks for the clarifications, guys. I still couldn't find the sending unit in PET, I'll look again later. Seems I did see it in there at one time or other...

All automatic gearboxes are MB units.

Got it -- it's not listed where I expected -- it's shown with the cluster. 78-84 impulse sender is P/N 928.606.210.00 and the carrier disc that holds the magnets is 928.318.024.02 up till 85. The second part is shown where I expected, alongside the ring & pinion drawing.

The pick up is just a reed relay - ie a micros switch that is triggered by a magnet passing by. I suspected mine and tested its output with a scope, and it was fine. Strongly doubt this will fail, given its encapsulation, unless it took an inpact somehow.

News to me. I thought the 3-speed was a ZF or Porsche design.
