Seems that the flare for drama about the car and the desire to kick someone when they're down far outweighed any concern for driver and passenger or desire to soften the blow. I had expected it to be different in the 928 community....and I think it is, as demonstrated by the great folks who stopped and provided every assistance possible...however there will always be exceptions, because that's human nature
Not sure what that's all about, but my first question when I heard was if you were OK. Glad that you were. No need to be offended - clearly you were driving beyond the car's and your capabilities - regardless of the reason.

Hey Tarek...I've got bumper shocks and possibly a fender if you need them. Free plus shipping. Hell, I'll cover the shipping for the shocks. The fender may be a little much, though.

Such things can happen,... to any one of us, regardless of their abilities or their car's capabilities. No one is immune..... ie: Dale Ernhardt. I'm sure he thought he was in control of that situation right up until it was too late. It's why they are called accidents. Certainly nothing for any of us to joke, rib or throw stones about in any way. Was darn scary for me when I saw his car into that tree from 50-100 yds away & recognized it. Thought for sure someone would be hurt. I'll never forget that first picture of it in my mind. I'm sure any who saw it feels the same way. Truly though a testiment to the strength of a shark in keeping them safe. You gotta bring that 928 back Tarek, that is all there is to it!

Okay,
Since I was right behind Tarek I will set the story straight.

There were four of us running together and we were cooking along down the mountain through the twisties and having a blast. These cars are amazing! Yes, we were driving the cars hard but definitely within the cars capabilities. Tarek was following the lead car and I was behind him. We came up to a fork in the road and the lead car made an unexpected right turn. Tarek tried to follow but when he got into the turn there was a lot of dusty gravel on the road which caused the tires to loose grip and he slid straight through the intersection and hit the tree. He had scrubbed off a lot of speed and really wasn't going too fast when he hit but he hit it hard enough to do some significant damage to the car. Tarek and his girlfriend (very cute btw) were okay and that is really all that mattered to anyone at the time.

Also, this incident gave me opportunity to have a very enlightening conversation the very animated Park Ranger "YOU...Wisconsin!!! YOU.....Delaware!!!! License and registration...NOWWW!!!! Ooooops.

I though you were only supposed to run if you were in a White Ford Bronco (on the freeway at 65mph) or an Enzo (on foot up "into the hills"?

Hi Tim,

Thanks for coming down, it was great to see you again and spend a little time together.
Glad you made it home OK.

>very animated Park Ranger

OH yeah, that is an understatement, my ears are still ringing from his "discussion" with me! Too bad I won't be able to drive any of my 928s on the Blue Ridge Parkway in my own backyard for the next 6 months or more... :-(

Please share with the rest of us. I would love to hear what he had to say. BTW. Did the ranger show up after the accident or was he there running radar already?

At least "Mr. Ranger Sir" was much more calm by the time our group of three sharks came along after our TB adjustment session at the meadow. After we pulled over to see if we could help in any way, he started off a bit testy with some fire in his eyes when he spoke to us about it, kinda read us the riot act too. But we did our best to "PR" him on the "Shark Cause"..... that we weren't a bunch of bad people who didn't need to be on the Parkway... just one of us happen to have an accident. Even got him interested enough in our 928s that he took a look under Chris Rose's shark at his brand new looking engine. He seemed impressed, but then again, who wouldn't be?? Not sure if it softened him up any, but we tried at least. Turns out he is a motorcycle rider, so we then got him diverted to griping about that group & their flaws on the Parkway instead of b*tchin about the 928s!

This wasn't meant as criticism to you Randy and I didn't have a doubt you were concerned with my safety first. My statement was more pointed at the messenger. Let me tell you there was no way for the messenger to know for sure if I and my passenger were ok or the condition of the car at the time he told you, especially that he/she seems to have concluded it was so serious that the engine shifted position...which is not true.

The other part of this is that I heard your name many times after the accident. More than one person wanted to know your reaction, because this afterall, used to be your car. The fact that I paid money for it, and put hundreds of hours into it during the first year of ownership still didn't qualify me as owner apparently. This was perceived as Randy's loss, not Tarek's, by some. And that apparently explained some of the reactions. Oh well.

And as far as driving skills are concerned, I was driving 50% of what I normally can and to Pmotts point, I don't think you can draw conclusions based on an accident. I'd rather leave that evaluation to a qualified professional, but I do agree that I'm an idiot who made a bad decision or had a lapse in judgement.

I don't know if it's salvageable yet. I'd like to try and if I'm successful I'd like to keep it. Thanks for the note

Thanks Dave. Very generous of you. I might take you up on them. If possible, could you look into an estimate for shipping on the fender? I'll try on my end too if I can. thanks again

Thanks for the encouragement Pmotts. I'll be looking for that year to lapse
