Default Photos from May 27th Fun Run and Airshow

Some of us Minnesota 928 folks hooked up with a couple of our 944 bros and had a great day of twisty raods, sailboats and airplanes on Sat. the 27th.

Roger S, and Roger Jr., Mark C, Joe O. and me all hooked up to go for a great drive around the Red Wing and Lake City Mn. area, and then headed to a fantastic “warbird” airshow.

Here's a few pics...

We hooked up with Roger, Mark and Roger Jr. at the marina where the Rogers had thier boat. The weather was fantastic for driving, sailing and flying.

Between us all, there were 3 sharks and 2 944s, although Warren's black S2 Cab stayed at the marina. I guess the sailing was more tempting, (or the boat needed some attention...)

Halfway through our drive, we stopped and took a break. We had been on some fantastic roads that I hadn't been on for a couple of years, and some that were new to most of us.

These guys are serious 928 people, and have 2 sharks, an '81 that was along, and an '85, and they really like to use them as intended. Just our kind of dudes.

See that smiling 17 yr-old on the left? See that 928 on the right? It's his. That's probably why he's smiling.

Once at the airshow, the cars took a back seat to those awsome warbirds. The P-51 and B-25 were the stars of the show, but there were some T-6's too.

The access to the planes was fantastic. I loved the idea that the P-51 was one of the first water-cooled fighters. Just like another of our favorite machines. Most people think the scoop under the wing is an air intake for the engine, but it's really for the radiator. What took Porsche so long to just get over the air-cooled thing?

I saw this and I thought “1st to the 9th. Air cav son. Air moble...”. Name the movie that's from...and bring me my Yader Spoon.

All in all it was a fantastic day, just what a holiday weekend should be. We're racking up some serious road time so far this summer. You Mn. & Wi. boys, keep an eye our for our June get-together. Ruf

I don't know where you got that info from, but there have been water cooled fighters since the fighter was invented in 1914.
Never mind, looks like you had a great day, lovely pics.

Nice start to summer. Planes, Cars and Boats. The P-51 Mustang has always been my favorite WWII plane. The Mitchell is really great looking too. Thanks for sharing.

Mrmerlin and C.F.

Since yesterday was Memorial Day, there were alot of old WWII movies on. I saw "The Battle of Britain" on TCM, and for the first time noticed the scoop under the wing of the Spitfires. So I guess I was "underinformed", I thought the P-51 was breaking new ground, but I did know the Spitfire shared it's engine, so I should have known that at least one other WWII fighter was obviously water cooled.

But that scoop is such a great trademark, everyone knows what plane it's from. Mrmerlin knows what motor it's from. - Ruf
