Nice effort, but a 1986 3500lbs 928 against a 2900lbs 944, no contest unless its a drag race.
Can we run a 1980 EuroS w/S4 brakes at 3100lbs? Now that would be good!!!

hi john
THE rules are still new.. the weights are subject to change depending if we are too fast or too slow..first i need to get a foot in the door.. right now euro's with the big HP are not qualified but that may change. HEY its better than PCA stock class for 928's..its going to be interesting..i am going to start by getting my race license in JULY then i will enter the car and see how i do. the rules again are subject to change..cars have to remain basically stock with the exception of interior to make weight.
THANKS

Great idea to start , but im so darn PISSSED at the PCA and subsequently POC for classing the 928 only by HP to weight , i could SCREAM! (and I do!) news flash, racing is only 1/3 about HP to weight. unless we are talking about drag racing, road racing is made up of TURNING and Stopping, both inexstricably tied to absolute WEIGHT!!!!!!
So, as much as i have race the 928 in stockish classes, i can tell who is competitive and who isnt.
basically the 928 should be able to run in one class lower in all groups than it is in today.
in POC for example, R5 is the last racing class before you need a fuel cell . a 928 can run , completely unmodified, but needs to run at 3500base weight. BUT, in the same class the new 996 at 3050lbs has 320hp (Ie more hp) as it would run Improved or Prepared in R5. Bottomline, its typical of PCA. here is a car 20 years newer, 500lbs less weight 5 more hp, ecu changes can be done as far as reprogramming, and the 928 is supposed to be equal to this . GMAFB!!!!!
DONT get me started. the reason the 928s get hosed is that there are NOT knowledgible people in PCA or POC that will want to buck the common assumption that HP /weight is the best way to class cars. basically, they need to rewrite the rules if they want to look at another type of car that is not anywhere near the weights stock, as the 911 or even 944 family. I know, i have both. we have a 911 from 1984 that makes 210rwhp with cat, and aftermarket muffler. this car can get to 2200lbs easily. try and compete against something like this with a 1000lb heavier 928 and get the physics lesson of your life when it comes to slowing down and cornering!!
SpeedGT gets this. Grand Am Cup gets this.... why cant PCA get their heads OOTA's. so, until that happens, 928s cant really play in any reindeer games.

If anyone wants in just email me. I have been in contact with the national director of 944CUP and he seems interested in getting 928's to come out and participate. So first i will get my devek bar converted to full cage and then i will get my license at pocono in JULY. After that i will enter my first race hopefully at the end of JULY. The national director of 944cup is starting me at 3500lbs with everything included(car, driver and safety equipment). After the first race we will see how it goes..too fast or too slow...and then the rules may change.
We need all the support we can get..so again if anyone is interested..contact me..We could start a team here on the northeast..all 928 and 928S from years up to 1986.5..
thanks

I'm interesting in tracking a 928 up here in the NW, but I'm a long way from doing it - a couple of years at least I would think. In the meantime I have been researching the 944 Cup scene as it seems like a good option for getting in at a lower price point, and I like the idea of the spec class.
I was wondering if anything like that could be started for the 928 so this is good news.
I'm also considering selling my dirt bike and going karting for a bit, but just can't seem to get myself to give up the dirt bike.
Anyway, I'll be following this closely.
Good job and good luck. -Ed

Vito,
MK is right, you need to find a way to let them allow lower weight, or with the older cars run bigger brakes. Although I thought I was told Jean-Louis was running S brakes at RA and had no issue.
You are close enough to where they want you, that you can see how it goes, and whether they adapt the rules to make it competitive for the 928s. You don't want someone building a 928 to a spec, and then finding out they don't want 928s beating 944s, so the rules remain unfair....
P.S. If Fred doesn't pick up the '83 Euro S, I could use the old race motor and make that another track car...... Wait a minute... too many ideas, too many projects.

just getting a foot in the door - right now the way i see it --is that the rules are more fair than PCA. That is defintely a start ! In SUPER CUP we will be running against 944 turbo's and 968's. The weight for the 944 turbo S in that class is 3250lbs. For me at 288 stock HP that is 40 MORE hp than the turboS that adds the additional weight OF 250LBS. Whether this is fair will still have to be determIned. i still think that its too much but thats the way its worked out on paper. This is going to be an experience for me and the 928 community. i hope that if it is that the weight is unfair.. that the national director of 944 cup will be flexible with the rules. He sounds like a great guy and i think i could get him to work with us. We need more 928's out there to show support unfortunetly its tough to do this on my own. I wish that stan, david, john, marc and the rest of the 928 racers could run but their cars may have a little too much oomph for these rules. Anyone who's car may met the requirements should come out and try it..

Vito,
I agree with you.
Another you could ask, is if 928s that aren't compliant could run as exhibition to try out the series (not DL, JV or my car) but perhaps someone like Kurt Gibble (who has a gutted S4)
I applaud your effort!

funny this came up. I just finished re-adding penalty points for my old gal and was wondering how on earth I'll really fare against turbo 911's and turbo 944's!! yiikes! guess I should just lighten it up/use lower treadwear tires, change some other induction stuff, etc and take it to the limit of the class since I"m in there anyway.
I did think it was kinda weird that the 928S included 86.5 and can use/swap S brake parts - but the 86.5 already has S4 brakes installed. yet the S4/up can use GTS stuff, while the S3 is the same weight... I just figured I still dont understand all the caveats, and that wiser folks prevailed over the years....
funny thing is - you should hear the turbo 911/944 guys scream when they see my "nascar porsche" smoke the tires and shred the straights... you'd think I was in a CGT or F1 car against them the way they shudder. so I assumed the rules must be pretty close to nirvana when nobody is happy kinda like a divorce settlement - you know it's probably close to equitable when everyone thinks it's bad, ha!
this should be interesting as it develops and more 928's hit the tracks.

I am interested in someone looking at this calculator
This is for the CASC T and GT races at Mosport and Shannonville in Ontario. Would this be something that would make our cars fair? I like the fact that the winner get bonus wieght added for every win and wieght removal when you place farther back. Anyone have any comments?
