Rear Wiper arms rattling - possible fix?
Related to rear wiper, but unrelated to its intended function (I think) -
I posted (within someone else's post) about the "rattling" of the two rear wiper arms. More of an annoyance than anything. I'm trying to figure out some sort of "bushing" or whatever to go in between the two arms to eliminate the rattle. So, I went to a local rubber/gasket shop and inquired about this. Well, the material itself is not that much, but the tooling up to do it is the main expense and the minimum number of feet (50') to be purchased runs up the price. If I did this, I could probably supply all of the 928s known to exist with the part, but I don't have a guarantee that the design will work; kind of a crap shoot. This is what I asked them to see about making out of neoprene approximate size 3/4" x 3/4" by about 1" long:
I'm anything but an engineer, so there are probably some better suggestions from you guys. However, if there's enough interest, I'll forge ahead and get it done. I know there are much larger issues out there but this has just been an annoying one I checked into curing.
Comments or suggestions welcome.
Regards,
David

Again, it's a crap-shoot for any new type and I don't want to spend upwards of $350 for something that may not work.
Nobody needs that much neoprene unless it's in a wetsuit.

Actually, I'd rather leave it since it's integrated into the rear spoiler...

Here is the picture of it.... As you can clearlt see mine is on the bottom with the angled bit down - anyone else? Should it be up the other way - I get no rattles...

A clip-on thing like a quick-splice connector should work .... I wonder if we could make something soft yet rigid. Theoretically a neoprene ring/band would do fine.

Alan-
It's supposed to be like that so if the wiper arm goes over to the frame of the hatch, it won't scratch the paint - unlike what happened on my old '82.

Take a rubber bushing of the type used on the top and bottom of shocks ( i used one i removed from my land rover, but you can pick them up anywhere) and carve a replacement, cut a slot in it, ( just like Heinrich showed ) and cut the top piece so you can get it to fit around the arm.
Apply RTV auto silicon to the slot, position on the arm, and voila, cheap fix.
