Any pointers as to how we can mate these to the early cars? I need to get jiggy with finding out how to shape thin steel. The adaptor piece and a S-spoiler are what I need to make.

Brendan, I've been looking at doing this, but I need an S4+ with a pan to measure first. Since you have both (S and S4+), you could take the measurements. I can get them laser cut, bent and have louvers stamped in them pretty easily. (Family friend owns a large metal shop in Northern Virginia.) PM me if you're interested. We can work something out.

Hi Matt. I am talking about the brighter smaller piece that you see in this picture below. Do you think we even need luevers there?
I'd love to do whatever I need to do to have the mating piece made so we can all get the two pieces on our cars (as well as the rear piece, which I can also measure).

What do you think about an S-spoiler in steel as well?

I wouldn't put louvers in that smaller piece; you could increase the pressure behind the radiator at speed, decreasing flow. I wouldn't try it without doing some before & after tests with a manometer or other device suitable for measuring small pressure changes.

I have both pieces on my '86, and it has seemed to keep temperature down. In fact, I have really been wondering why it has been so cool. No louvers in the front piece; just in the rear.

Yeah, the louvers on the flat underbelly can only help cooling. The smaller angled piece becomes a high pressure area at speed though, and the question when putting louvers there is whether the pressure there is high enough to prevent airflow over the piece from sucking air out the louvers.

Sorry, I didn't mean louvers there. It was part of a related but different idea I have. I was thinking about both while typing and they got combined in that post.

Our undertray was designed to replace the factory plastic/fiber engine undertray used on 1987-1995 as a less expensive yet far stronger alternative. So yes it was made for the 1988 ! It protects the belts from debris ,will help the A/C compressor not get hungup if you bottom out the car , and was part of the aerodynamics and cooling design for the car.
