WUR questions and needs
I'm in need of an 83 euro WUR or a place that can rebuild mine. SpecialTauto wants an arm &a leg. But basically I need the heating elements.
Which brings up a question: my unit has two heating elements, that spec at 47.3 ohms. Stock is like 20ish ohms.
What is the purpose of two elements?

That's the long thing with the disc inside right? Why not just buy one from a 911SC or such ... I see many 928 engines (not just your model) have those too. Saw one on my spare 83 engine for instance.

Why do you need heating elements if you can still get ohms out of yours? I have one with a damaged valve/regulator section, but AFAIK the heaters are ok - in Oz though...Some models had 2 heaters, but I forget the logic of them. I will check they still make circuit in case you have no luck there...

I was able to make one good one out of a few extras.
Still not sure why there needs to be two heating elements in the euro. All my others have only one.

I should know this one....c'mon....nope, Can't recall. Darn it. I'll root around and find the answer there's an online article on it.
Couple suggestions- the proper euro WUR is different as you mentioned and carries the -086 extension. Carl may have one, or the parts you need, I think he's upgrading that type WUR for his adjustable version....but I could be wrong.
I'll look at what I got, but I don't know that I have any that I could let go much cheaper than the rebuild cost. They are getting too scarce!
Best alternative might be a rebuilt US version. Performance Products actually has decent pricing (IMHO) for rebuilt '78/79 units.
I'll try to locate the info on the difference to help your decision though.

http://specialtauto.com/porsche-parts/ This company also lists the 036 as used on the Euro S cars. The 036 is more commonly used on the early US cis cars. It appears that it doesn't make any difference which wur you use as long as it is off a 928.

I ended up using the 036 from my 80 euro track turd. The original difference was in the length of time the heating element kicked in. Plus the cold and warm pressures were a bit off. I spent a few minutes dialing in my numbers and she purs like a kitten. I'd still like to know why all other WUR's have 1 heating element and the 086 has two.
Now on to find out why my rest pressure tanks on shutdown. Got a leak somewhere (dam# injectores)

I checked in with Jay because I thought he had sorted out the purpose of the dual strips when we were warring with my car. But apparently not, he's not certain either.
However, he did say that the wiring is very different and needs to be altered to match the US diagram in order to use one of the more available WURs.
God, another nightmare to try to check out on mine.

I think you're thinking of the auxilary air valve?
