Read a review in a new auto magazine on the new 997 Turbo and I really liked the wheels, don't have a link but they are the best looking factory wheels IMO!
19's I'm pretty sure, didn't note offsets, anyone know more?
My 17x8 et52 wheels stick out past the fender. et47 wheels will be a full 5mm further out.
It depends on the tires. According to my excel sheet, with 225 wide tires, they would only be 1.9mm outboard of Jim Page's 305s which you said fit without fender mods (I'm assuming the fender lip is rolled, but not flared). They would be 4.7mm inboard of an S4 rear (16x8 ET52.3) with 245s on the front, which supposedly fits.
Loaded, they're talking about fronts. On the rears you can get away with a lot more.
Matt - Tire calculators are a nice ball-park figure, not even close to 100% accurate since tire size is not equal from brand to brand. Jim has found up to a 1" difference between the same "size" tire between different brands. Race tires tend to be overall a bit skinner due to not having a rim protector. The 265/40-18 continental's I have on my 79 are 12" wide overall. The same wheel with Toyo RA1's of the same size are 10.5" wide.
Fact is my wheel at 17x8 et52 sticks out past the fender line.
Jim's car is also running some serious negative camber on the front, and he also has just enough turning radius to drive around a track - much less than stock.
The best technical discussion on wheel fitments in general, and scrub radius in particular, is this link to .pdf file hosted on the www.landsharkoz.com site: http://www.landsharkoz.com/tt/ttwheels2.htm. It is a must-read, and the site is a great info source in many other ways as well.
