Car didn't pass smog
My car needs to pass to sell and the buyer wants it by Wed evening!!!!!!
Mechanic who is working on the car is familiar with 928's but I just want some other opinions here. CO2 was way high in 225 area. Car is running very rich. The cat is good and I think all the other numbers are ok. This car is an '80. Aside from checking the oxygen sensor if adjustments fail what else might I be in for in terms of bad parts that need replacement?

Apparently it needed adjustment by someone who knows 928's....the car WAS hot when tested but the guy who adjusted it knew his stuff, checked it with a sniffer and said we're good to go. Off to the smog test folks in a couple hours. It'll be good n' hot when I get there. Where I'm registered they do an idle test w/out the dinomometer which makes it harder to pass I'm told. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Isn't the cut off in Ca 24 years for testing?

I wish:
Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or vehicles 1975 and older.
Thats 31 years!

Yeah, you can thank Ah-nuld for that bit of idiocy. One jet taking off from the airport pollutes more than a car driving 4000 miles, and he thinks he's done us a favor. Lots of noise, signifying nothing.

I'm in a similar situation with the '85: CO2 is high, running rich. I know I need to change plugs, mechanic says it needs a top end cleaning and to run a can of Sea Foam through a half tank and burn it out.
Dave, having said that, I'm most willing to do it b/c clean air is priceless. The child asthema rate in NYC has doubled in the last 20 years.

I've been told that this helps to pass, basically methanol:

Welp, it passed. Just needed the expertise of a Porsche-trained mechanic who used to own a 928 himself. Burns nice and clean and now CA certified. Thanks guys.

But I suppose if it passed Arizona smog, it'll pass here in Tx.

I'm afraid I don't know exactly what was adjusted but its beneath the airbox someplace because I saw him pull it apart. Some sort of spring can be a problem in there where the adjustment screw is. He mentioned having to give it a few knocks to do something to the spring. Just make sure the guy you get knows exactly what he is doing or you may wind up paying alot for unneeded parts replacement.
