if I hadn't have blown my tires off in 1st gear fighting for traction, I bet I would have done it!

certainly one of my worst launches, forgot to lower my rpm when I turned the boost up. DOH!

However, the the traps werent recording anyones 1/8th MPH speeds for what ever reason that night...This is the time slip from that run. The times seem accurate..the MPH in the 1/8 is obviously wrong??
So, with out a timeslip i cant say i beat it...next time
this is the vid of the two runs, as posted ealier.

I've never run the 1/4, as there isn't a local track that long, but have run the 1/8 a few times. My GT was pretty consistant in the 9.2 -9.3 range at 78 mph. That was with a wasted clutch, but I've not run since replacing the clutch and adding a few other minor performance enhancements, as well as some weight reduction(unfortunately in the car, not the driver). I believe that on a good day she should turn an 8.9 at 80+ mph, in her current configuration. Most of the stock/lightly modified Mustangs were turning 9.8-10.0 times the last time I went. Pretty much anything in the 8's is pretty respectable for a non power adder car, to this track's crowd. I just wish I was closer to a 1/4 mile track, so I could put the smackdown on a few friends cars!!!! LOL.

Does it really matter who has the best mph time at the 1/8 mile mark? Wouldn't the best ET at the 1/8 make all the difference? 1/8 tarcks are too short for a 928, they work great for slower cars but not for a boosted 928.
I've looked through my last year's time slips and it's odd that one of my slowest runs had the highest ET (13.4sec @ 110.4mph). All the 12.8-12.9s has around 108-109mph.

I never noticed/payed attention to midway time stuff before - but it does seem to give a clue on where the strongest accelleration occurs and apparently helps validate/invalidate the rest of the slip too
we'll have to get sterling and murph guys to show us how it's done one of these days! they've got some awesome dyno #'s, so I'm sure theyd turn some impressive track times too.
so it seems for a street dressed shark to break below 13's, some kind of slick and about 390rwhp are pre-requisties??

Not really. You can do it on street tires. I was below 13s consistanly with a set of worn out Kuhmos Ecstas. Tossing on some stickier tires will help on the launch, but once you spin, you spin...it will just hook back up quicker. Those runs above were done on Marks old Toyo RA1's that he races with. You can see from the 60ft time and in the video i still spun at the line. Still to agressive on the launch...When the hooked up though they stuck like glue and really set you back in the seat. I have 2/10ths sitting there to grab easily in my 60ft times. I should be at a solid 2.0- 2.05. Thats said i should have a 12.4 to 12.5sec 1/4 in the car yet.
While fast 1/4 miles are something, i dont think ive seen anyone break a 2.0sec 60ft time?

During my fastest run I've pulled a 2.027sec 60" on stock 225s! Tonight I'll have to see if I have any better 60" times slips than that ( I don't think I do). It is quiet possible to get an even 2.0 or even sub 2sec. 60”, it just takes a bit more finesse and luck. You guys are all running larger tires than I do, so it should be possible.
If you are not spinning your tires a little at the launch then you are not doing it right. It’s a combination of very small amount of clutch slippage (if you have one) and a small-moderate amount of tire spin to get a perfect launch. These cars tend to bog down if the tires are not spinning during launch.
I found feathering the throttle can control the tire spin fairly well. Best is if you roll on to the throttle as opposed to flooring it right away.

I'm not set on 1/8 mile mph, others had asked, that's why. but you countered your statement: if the 928 is not geared for the 1/8 mile, then MPH is much more important than ET as ET's require obscenely high RPM launches & clutch slip.
That's how I got my first 12 second pass with a 2.0 60' time (no, I've never been under that)
watch this launch: my first 12 run, with the 2.0 60'
http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...722FA1F46C.htm
that was a 4500rpm launch (approx).

Looked through all of my slips and found a 1.941 and a 1.983 60', but most were between 2.0 and 2.2. Those were both 12.7 runs, not my best, but not bad.
Good luck at the strip, I am still waiting on my clutch install.
Later, Woody
