Timing systems aren't bullet proof (Not to diss anything being said here). Speaking from practical experience running timing/scoring software for asa/pro auto (Rich Andrade can chime in on this as well) - "ghost hits" are what we call times posted in error (partial explanantion of). It also depends on the system the track uses. But in short - T&S systems are not bulletproof. Times do get posted in error, whether human and or software/hardware.

so what happens in an event if someone gets a ghost time? do-overs? dq? or like in golf - let it roll...

For road racing (which is what I mainly scored) we delete the hits and enter manual hits. A Royal PIA and most times not too precise. If the transponder isn't working in the car - we black flag that car until the issue is resolved. Whether a new battery or a new transponder.

Think about, multiple cars on track, a few of them don't hit equates too total kaos in the T&S trailer -

sounds like a 1st class cluster-f... I did an off road dirt bike enduro once where that happened cause environmentalists got on the course and trashed the markers... had 200 riders riding around in circles for an hour... was a total mess, but at least the jr. terrorists got arrested.

guess my infamous run created quite a stirr at the track last night. I accidently posted this in OT last night, but let the tread run cause some guys had some interesting thoughts - and someone had a cust. come in and mention my run. ha! news travels fast!!

hope I can live up to a repeat!! or maybe I should quit while I'm ahead!! ha!

14.18 @ 102 mph...sounds just about right...and NOTHING to sneeze at either. With the 2:20 gearing of these cars, and a full compliment of luxury goodies...to turn the 14.18 at the mph "indicated"...is pretty impressive in it own right. When "Corrected" for altitude...you're car most probably is turning very low 13s...perhaps even high 12s in "actual" ET. At least you had the ***** to actually take your car to the track, and post an ET. Lots of guys "Here" tend to be "Have a look at this Dyno Sheet"...types, which actually tell you nothing, but the motor runs great when tuned for the Dyno....These 1/4 mile timeslips however...indicate "specific" car performance...on a specific track ...Blah, Blah , Blah...My point is...for a fresh 928S...with all the Luxuries it has, (and a 2:20 final Drive Ratio)...to turn 14.18 ET, @ 102+ mph...(Uncorrected for altitude)...is indicative of a car that at "sea level" that would turn very low 13s...perhaps even 12.90s or so... So Good work.

thx jeff! no big deal, imo.. actually, I've got a stack of 13.47-13.51 at 102.xx from back to back runs earlier in the day, uncorrected. but that was w/out burnouts or loading up the torque converter or the benefit of 10-12 f lower temps and a colder engine compartment, etc from sitting around...so I'm sure it was the best run of the day... just hate to see it fubared w/strange #'s as I really wanted to see what it could do under "ideal" conditions.. guess a wormhole is a little too ideal... ha!

it's all in the name of fun/sport though - not too many strokers guys post times, dyno stuff so I just thought I'd share - if nothing else I"ve got a pretty rare timeslip... could be worth a few bucks on ebay if I claimed little baby jesus was in my tank and that's why it happened, hahahaha.

in fact, if you fold it in 1/2 and hold it up to the light.....

No...unfortunately not. Its has been sold to a perfect buyer though... a fellow rennlister, and 928 owner. I am happy to report...that if it weren't possible for me to keep this car, it was sold to the best guy I know to take ownership...That sai...keep looking. Theres quite a few cars in this condition out there...just have to hunt them down. Good Luck...

Sh*t Rob, I should probably meet you out there one of these nights and see what a stock 5 spd GTS can do. Of course I would put my orignal rims back on the car, not worth toasting the 19" rims and rubber. Do they require a helmet out there?

Those are damm good times , using the correction factors from earlier in the thread at sea level you would be running 13.0.. at 106 !
You need to run a 13.43 at LACR to =12.99 at sea level
So get back out there this week & be the first in the world ? to run in the 12's in a N/A car

you guys are the most incredible group I"ve ever had the pleasure of associating with!

just got off the phone w/a local track pro and 9sec car owner... same thing happened to him in vegas last year during an event - but the officials caught it.. apparently, it also happens here w/more regularity than most ever know.... so, apparently - this slip is trash!!!

I NEVER, EVER would have guessed it on my own though. how you guys caught it only demonstrates how amazing the rennlist collective really is!!! (even though it was a disappointment for me to personally discover it - truth is truth!) guess when something seems too good to be true....

I suspect this is probably the source of MANY absurd claims from amatures.... who'd ever guess the systems could be that flaky??? and armed w/a hard copy to back it up - it's a real compelling arguement for those not in the know!!

so hats off to all!!

thx again!!

ps - helmet required under w/under 14 sec... it'd be a hoot to go up w/some more sharks!! wed and friday - gates open at 5:30pm/ only $20 and all the runs ya can stand!! lots of other cool stuff always shows... pretty mellow gang... hotties are a bit young, but burgers and beer are legal and ok...

pick a night! we'll have some fun!

I remember reading somewhere that the white car ran a 12.4 then smoked its clutch?
