Wrong direction.

I'm throwing this on 3-4 popular wheel/tire threads since this seems to be a very confusing issue. I hope this helps someone out there.
*************************************************************

I just scored on some Cup-1 wheels. ET52 7.5"-17 & ET47 9"-17

Tires I got were 225/45-17 ZR and 255/40-17 ZR. No problem fitting. Better ride than w/stock 16" 7 & 8" wheels. I'm sure you noticed TireRack.com has this exact size wheels and recommended tire size.
Cornering is fine. Didn't have to do anything special during install.

Also, I got good info while at tire store...this place has 800 locations, so I trust the info on the computer screen: (let me know if you need name of store, in case you need more MY details)

(This was for MY89, but I'm sure it will fit any applicable 928 with similar specs)

Recommended sizes:

7" ET46/55 / 205/225
7.5" ET48-52 / 205/225
8.5" ET47/49 / 225
9" ET47/55 / 245/255
9.5" ET52/56 / 255/265/275
10" ET45/50 / 265/275/285

These sound like the wheels and tyres I have on my '81 928.

I've been waiting for the rain to stop so I can post a picture with the car "clean" and update my avatar at the same time. I'll go outside and take pictures though...in case somebody is getting ready to pull the trigger on a similar wheel.

Here is a shot while they sat in my garage. Yes, the chrome finish is "after market". The original owner had a '91 GTS and lived in California. He immediately went out and chromed the wheels. While not my first choice, I like them better by 100% over my laid back dish wheels. They're starting to grow on me...can't believe the difference wheels make to the look of the car. I'll post those pictures today.

I was able to get this done quicker...went outside at my workplace and took a few shots.

Please keep in mind car has been thru 3-4 rainstorms here since last cleaned (I'm very particular about car's appearance). I'm glad it is raining though, we've been in drought conditions for about 9 months.

Yipee! More drought busting rain!

Took this photo about 1 hour after previous photos...good thing I didn't wait to take earlier pictures.

January 24, 2008 update: I've just updated the calculator with some additional wheel info (Thanks to Randy V!). -AO

Default tire profile size

has anyone tried to install one profile size larger tire on their 928?
choices are better for tires.
its only 1/2' top and bottom and no change in width.

225/50-16 to 225/55-16
245/45-16 to 245/50-16
