Lets not be too hasty here...

Granted the CS rims and elevated hub may be a stretch, but my euro track car was a one owner 78 euro 5 spd that HAS side mouldings, S spoilers (with correct rear qtr glass seals and front bumper cut-outs) and 8" H4's. AND supposedly has/had never been modified, that is until I got my mitts on it.

Maybe some things aren't meant to be explained.

Scott,
What's with the 944T avatar? Let's see the 78 track car.

Fred;

The 951 is about the only car I have running at the moment.

The track turd is buried in the deep, dark recesses of the warehouse. It may be a while before it sees daylight, let alone run, again.

I actually saw this car in the local paper, went and looked at it today, then found this thread!

Okay, so onto what I saw. Interior is in perfect shape, vinyl/cloth seats, all original radio, carpets are almost brand new (I mean, original, but the carpet and backing is fully intact) and the engine bay is nice and clean. Also the underside is spotless, no undercoating either from what I can tell. I let him drive and just observed (I've never driven a 5-speed 928), it felt like it pulled hard. He said he had the wheels polished, that's not original. The exhaust is also custom from manifolds back (manifolds themselves are original), he said he had the original euro forward muffler but for some reason thought it was restrictive. It does sound nice and mean, however, but not like an American V8. I noticed some shifter slop, but I don't know how much is normal. If the spoilers are not original, then they were added by a pro, even down to the front brake ducts. He thought it was the "competition package." He also was under the impression it was a 4.7 liter Don't know where he got that idea.

He claims he does not really know 928's or even Porsches, but he knows that car in particular. He also did not have a good idea what it was worth, he told me, "if you think 7 is fair" then he'd be open apparently.

Overall, I have to say it looked and sounded nice, but we did not go that fast in it. I would feel guilty driving it in any inclement weather, however.

Has anyone here bid on it?

Flint, thanks for the info. I'm considering bidding on it, but I've got others in the mix as well, so I'm still waiting to see what happens. It sounds really nice so I'll probably bid, but I'm not sure how long I'll stay in. Shipping to South Carolina won't be cheap, so I've got to keep that in mind. Of course flying in and driving back would be awesome.

I asked the guy and he said the sunroof is done really well and has never leaked. I may bid to win this one...

Good Luck Moe,
I think it is a nice looking car. I paid $6000.00 for my 79 Euro with 38k miles. Needed usual things, vacuum hoses, tb/wp etc... Doing it now. I am very pleased.

Thanks Frank. I love the vintage 928s from the seventies. Yours looks awesome. I'll be posting like crazy if I buy this one, or any other for that matter. Just a couple more days and we'll see.

Keep in mind, I didn't go look with the usual checklist or anything, just an initial overview kind of thing. If you (or anyone else) goes for it, I can reccommend a shop or two for PPI in town here.

One more tidbit I just remembered. When he first started the car it needed a few cranks (presumably because its a garage queen) then ran a little rough as he backed it out of said garage. After he drove it and warmed it up, he started it again to put it back and it fired up right on the first turn of the key. Don't know if that means anything to anyone (I know mine never starts up on the first crank!)

Ok,
Mine did this when I first got it. The sending unit seal was bad and when you filled the tank, gas just leaked out all over everywhere. If his hasn't been done, I would bet it will leak. My first 79 did also. However, it wasn't a hard job just a PIA. They didn't bother to tell me about it, I found out at the first gas station. I would have bought it anyway but it would have been nice to know. Moe, that is not my car in the avitar. Mine is lite blue metalic and the prettiest color I have ever seen on a car. Thats one reason I did buy it. That blue with the silver phone dials is just classic beauty. I think the green on the one you are looking at is almost as pretty

Forgot to finish my thought. After replacing the sending unit seal, my car now fires right up. The tank will hold a little pressure now I guess. It hisses when I remove the gas cap now.

Hey Moe. If you buy it, maybe you can arrange to fly up around the first of June and drive it back home......via Sharks In The Mountains in NC. Kill two birds with one stone. And while you are at 928 Specialists you can get that thing up on the lift and have a ton of knowledgable eyes check it over carefully for you.

Frank -

Awesome info. Thanks so much. It's good to hear about things like that. Even though, like you said, the car is still worth purchasing, it's good to know what to look out for and what others have been through.

Fabio -

I'd love to make it to SITM. I've always checked out the site and pictures from each year as it has come and gone and I've been 928-less. If I have a shark by then, I'm there.

FLint -

Thanks so much for that information from your visit. I think I'll try to expect some issues even though it seems to be in good shape. I won't get my hopes up, but so far it does sound do-able.

Hey Moe,
If you get your shark, we can link up and drive in tandom. A lot of the other guys are doing that. I am in Wilkesboro, NC. I think you would almost have to go right by here to get to Banner Elk for SITM. This, of course, if my shark starts after I get it back together
