Help! CIS Fuel injector removal
Hi,
Man, I never thought these things would be this tough to get out. They have been in there for 27 years. I have tried the 12mm deep socket and a bang. I can get them to turn freely but not come out. I have also tried to grab them with vice grips and pry with claw hammer. No luck.
Now, I know there those of you out there who have done this job before. What is your favorite technique? I have new seals and 4 new caps coming so I can break 4.
Thanks,
Frank Barnhill

Thanks Ross,
Man, I just sprayed them. I will try again in a couple of hours... The bottom of the injectors as well as the ports are black as the ace of spades. You think it was running too rich?
Thanks,

Ross, you have electronic fuel injections. They are totally different than the CIS injectors. Because of this, I beleive the CIS injectors are removal procedure is different tha yours.

Hmm, as far as I remember, you put the aluminum "barrel" looking thing on the injector and then slide the rubber thingy on the injector, into the barel looking thingy. And it is the aluminum "barrel" thing which threads itself into the intake manifold not the injector itself. So, if you spun the injector inside the aluminum barrel looking thing, then make sure you are pulling the actuall injector. Does it feel spongy when you try to get it out? Becouse it could be that the rubber thingy got stuck to the injector, and now doesn't let go, and that's why you can't get it out... Is the barrel looking thing spinning when you are spinning the injector?

Sounds like the injector had spun in the aluminum sleeve. This happened to me a while back when I pulled my old injectors. The injector/sleeve assembly removes together. I had to pull my intake runners and use a small pipe wrench to remove the injector/sleeve -- the aluminum sleeves will need to be replaced.
One thing I notied upon installing new sleeves and injectors is that the top of the sleeves is thicker (ie more surface on the flats). I guess this was to help prevent the injector from spinning/stripping the sleeve.

I must have been lucky with mine, they unscrewed fairly easily after a smack on the socket arm. Others , like Hupp have had a VERY hard time ! The rubber bushings are tough to get on and off, I found vaseline helped a lot to get the new ones in place correctly.

After I rounded the hex hole in two of the sleeves, I removed the rest by wrapping the sleeves (or barrels) with a shop rag then used a pair of channel locks to break (unscrew) the sleeves from the intakes.

Thanks Guys I got them out. Now how do I remove the sleeve?
I only messed up one of the injectors, the first. Anyone have a used one they want to part with?
Thanks,
Frank Barnhill
