Default Cruise Control

This one is wierd. For the longest time I thought my cruise control did not work. I just discovered that it does work, but in an odd way. If I set the control at say, 65 mph, the car will coast down to about 58 and then the cruise will cut in and maintain the speed at 58. Likewise, if set at 70 mph, the car will coast down to 63 and then hold at that speed.

Anyone had this problem?

That seems to be one of the common complaints. The other is that it wil start out holding speed, but will slowly lower the speed it is trying to maintain like it's coasting down very slightly. I think I have the oddest cruise behavior... the instant acceleration button. Engage cruise and it goes to WOT.

I haven't checked if mine does that because as soon as I set it, it loses speed right away so I assumed it didn't work. I have to try and see if it holds after the initial set. I would never use it in my normal driving but possibly next summer I'm going to drive the car coast to coast, around 8,000 miles, so the cruise could become a necessity. At least I have a year to get it fixed.

Many people have been able to get their cruise controls to work by simply re-soldering the connections in the brain. The WSM has a very straightforward procedure to isolate faults in the system. The hardest part of the whole job IMHO is finding a 7mm wrench to remove the brain.

I also don't normally use it, but for the past year I've been bringing this car back to life and I am determined to get everything to work properly. Also, for long interstate travel it is a must.

I can't live w/o cruise control (saves on tickets). I fixed this problem by resoldering the cruise brain connections.
