a welded full locker rear end makes a car UNDERSTEER horribly ..... on any moderate to tight corner. manuveering in the paddock the rear tires chirp and shudder as the wheels try to ALWAYS TURN the same speed ALWAYS and that means straight line straight ahead !

A welded differential is illegal in many racing venues where they know how dangerous these things can be. They should be illegal everywhere.....think about what happens when one axle or C/V joint fails. The car instantly makes a severe turn in the direction of the wheel that is still driving. This is awful when launching a car and is really, really awful if it happens at speed.

Drag race cars use spools.....welded differentials are illegal almost everywhere. Please consider things carefully before you make this modification.

Jim Bailey correctly answered your original question.....a G-50 limited slip isn't even close to fitting.
The PSD units don't work very well in any application when they are not comtrolled by the computer. We tried one for years in a race car (without the computer controlled pump and servo) and finally gave up and installed a earlier limited slip into the GTS gearbox we were using.

What about Hack and his T56s? I think somebody should hack the bell housing off an NSG-370 and use it with the diff housing from an automatic 928.

These are from 951. Shape and location of components is totally different compared to 928.

Hmm
So a G50 won't work...the corvette 6 speed won't fit either..but this company says it does

What about a 6 speed from a 968 turbo (euro car)....would that fit.....probably gonna be expensive?

Brian, please delete that post. Throw your wallet out the window, better investment than dealing with those guys.

I fail to understand why anyone would want to install any of the mentioned transmissions, even if they did bolt right in. The 928 transmission works well, does the job and can handle some very serious horse power (the autos even more so).

As for the 951 trans in a high hp 928 seams like a bad idea to me. I've talk to more than a few 951 owners who have broken R/P in modified 951's. I can only imagine what the extra weight and added HP of the 928 would do to that unit.

Good luck finding 968 Turbo S gearbox cheaply. There is one for sale in Germany I think. Asking price only 9500 euros ($11.5k)

Hacker
I have heard bad things about them.......if the experts here all say it won't fit...makes you wonder why they think they can make it work?

Ok ok no welding.

Sooooo on to Plan C.

I was looking through the PET catalog for 928's and noticed that there seemed to be some interchangeability with the parts in the differential of a 917. So can you fit a 917 limited slip diff in a 928?

If someone can make the 951 box fit, surely this will:
