Default Painting the phone dials...

I had this weird dream last night that I painted my phone dial wheels black. In my dream they looked good.

Has anyone done this?
If so what do they look like?
Is it practical to paint the rims?
I can't stop thinking about it...

Feel free to encourage me to paint or call me an idiot...

What color is your car?
Some have powder coated them and they turn out alright.

I have (I believe) 895 Wienrot or Wine red?

I will be tinting the windows...I'm thinking the Black windows and Black trim will tie nicely with the black rims...I'm not sure if it would look stupid. I really like other styles of rims that are black...however, they are usually a thin 5 spoke with little surface area.

I used a set of phone dials when I still drove the 928 year-round. These have since been sold, but here's the pics I have:

Exellent. Thanks for the pics. I think I may try painting them...I'm guessing it shouldn't break the bank.

Thanks

Make sure you use a primer first. I didn't (purposely since I wasn't sure I'd like how they looked) and the paint didn't stand up well to daily use.

Also, if you go with the two-tone look, electrical tape works much better than masking tape.

Advice recieved and noted. Hopefully I can the car restored to a presentable state and meet the rest of the 928'ers in the D-town area.

I'm in Plymouth everyday and pass through Northville during my commute. Always happy to meet another 928 owner.

I am a Novi Fire Fighter. I work nights so I am home during the day to work on the car. I am on the email list, I have been watching from the outside-in for some time now.

Once I get the basic parts replaced / serviced, I will try to get out and be more sociable. My goal is to be able to take it down woodward ave with the rest of the 928s, armed with a proud smile.

I've painted mine twice in 25 years and 70K miles. I think they come out just fine. Use Werthers? silver wheel paint. I think Performance stocks it. No need for primer.

Hi if you going to be keeping the wheels for long time it might be better to have them powder coated i would go with the black chrome

You should seriously consider silver. Just my opinion, I love phone dials and you wouldn't see the shapes if they're too dark.
Here are mine in "black chrome" powdercoat, which is just a charcoal color with clear. Everyone else likes them a lot, but I'm still getting used to them.
Chuck Z has black wheels on his beater GTS (his version of a beater/daily driver is perfection), just go to 928 Registry and see them. The last pic is his car.

Thanks for the feed back. I am going to paint the rims...however, I am not sure what color and if I am going to do it or have them professionally done. Silver or black or some shade in between might look very cool and unique.

Uhhhhh.....928andRC51......I'm not sure if I'm understanding your post correctly, but those aren't phone dials....Maybe you knew that and I'm not reading your response right. I'm actually not a big fan of phone dials, but the black seems to improve my view of them. Paint on!
