I have had issues with the power bleeder as well. I think it actually pushes air where it is MORE difficult to purge.

The WSM say's to bleed thr Master first if I'm not mistaken.
I don't think it applies to the early models like mine and Zack's unless they mean the one on the very bottom of the MC. But definitly on yours -two bleeder ports...I think...-

Changing brake fluid is good! One of my chores coming up in May.

Picture of the first time I changed the brake fluid on my '85: Is that Guinness in that little bottle?

Hi I think it would be a good idea to get some ATE super blue and flush the system again, and get rid of all that synthetic fluid, plus the ATE is dot 4, if using a 1 quart doesnt get the brakes working then there is a good possibility that the master has taken a dump, based on your description, Stan

Darien
When Bill & I did mine last month it took less than a whole liter? Did you get a full 4 liters out?....sounds really odd...it must have injected air into the master cylinder?

The pressure bleeder says ut to 20psi, or something like that. Do not run it that high. Pump it up to 20psi and check for leaks, then turn the lid to drop pressure down to 5 or 10 psi, then bleed the brakes.

I was wondering about the PSI, I had it between 10-15?

As for the amount of fluid used, it definitely sounds like overkill. I just wanted to make sure I had fresh fluid throughout. When I bleed this time, I'll only use the minimum to get the air out.

Thumbs up Update!!

Well, after bleeding for the second time and including the master cylinder first and last, my brakes are back

Thanks for the help, I totally spaced the master cylinder the first time. My Brother and his family were visiting and I was trying to do it while they were sleeping .

Excellent. I've never bled the master, but I suppose I've not done anything to introduce air into it.

I was going to suggest rebleeding when I was reading the earlier posts. Any time that has happened to me a second bleed solves the problem right away. Also, tends to happen if you're doing something major like replacing brake lines or doing a flush rather than a bleed. Doesn't happen often but it can.

I am not too impressed with the power bleeder for getting air out of the system. I just don't think it genereates enough pressure to get the air out. It's great for a flush or fluid change, but for getting air out I found using one of these $6 one-man bleeders works like a charm! The only issue is that there is a magnet on it so you can position the bottle higher than the bleeder screw. Front fenders are aluminum so I had to use a little clamp to hold it up. Other than that, $6 is a cheap tool to have for bleeding.

Had the same problem with the bleeder after I took the calipers of for painting.
Power bleeder left too much air in the system.
Only the good old 2nd helper method (wife) worked just fine. Don't forget to bleed the master cylinder too, it has it's own bleeder.

If I asked my wife to help with the Porsche, she'd take it as me asking her to join a 3-way with my mistress.

While I might be game... she's not.

One other note - How much pressure did you use in the Power Bleeder. Connect the power bleeder, apply some pressure and see if the pressure on the gauge drops. If it does - there's a leak.

The only problem with that is that the Blue hose can slip off if you're not careful.
