Default Plastic Dash/Pod Covers any Good?

Has anyone installed one of the plastic dash covers that are on Ebay. I would like to install it bt was hoping someone had some experience they could share.

Thanks

My car came with a hard plastic dash cover. It looked pretty bad, but what was underneath looked much worse. I really thought I wouldn't be able to stand it. After a short brainstorm, I took the dash cover off and brought it to an upholstery shop. The fellow there said he could cover it in leather or vinyl for me, for what ended up being a pretty nominal fee.

When all was reinstalled it made for a bit of a tight fit with the pod, but it looks decent. Not perfect, but certainly not bad at all. The key, depending on how **** you are, is getting it to lay perfectly flat where it should because the fit on the one I had at least is not quite exact and that was exacerbated by the layer of vinyl.

Overall, though, for about $75 for the cover (Coverlay brand is the one I have) and about $50 for the color-matched vinyl and covering, it looks OK. One advantage is that when I installed a GPS I had no compunctions about cutting it slightly to permanently mount the receiver and hide the wires

If you have the funds, a leather dash cover from Rob + a leather pod cover from Paul is the way to go!

Cool

I purchased the plastic pod and dash covers from 928Intl, a couple of years ago for my '82. I thought it looked much better then the cracked pod . I sold the car within a month, so I'm not sure how long it lasted or how it looks now.

Mine has a hard plastic cover on the dash and the pod. Looks pretty good except on the extreme ends where it meets the A pillars. It's not as flat as I'd like, but I'm sure it would have more waves if didn't parked it in the sun. My only real "complaint" is that it has the periodic "plastic" squeaks. Overall a good, economical solution.

FWIW..
I've got the coverlay dash cover and pod cover on my 81, you must pull the pod to fit it correctly, and cut, hack, trim, smooth any bumps in the foam underdash, the rtv silicon they supplied doesn't work worth anything... a couple of very small self tapping sheet metal screws where they can't be seen has held it in place for 7 years now, and it still looks like new, no squeaks, swelling, etc..

I used one on my 88 Pod, did not use the dash part. Complaints about the pod cover.

1) It makes a rubbing noise when I turn the steering wheel, I will go in and try to fasten the cover on better behind the wheel or put a washer to space the steering wheel out a little better to eliminate the problem.

2) The ***** stick in the pod. I need to try and take the ***** out and sand down the plastic until they work properly (ie: odometer reset button and fog lamp buttons stays pushed in unless you pull it back out.

But it does look much better than the cracked pod.

The Dash part I trial fit it on and I did not like how the vents would work, and I thinked it was going to be problamatic, so I will probably just get the little vent covers to hide those cracks.

Good luck.

There are 2 manufactures of these covers that I am aware of. Coverlay and Palco. We have been selling the Palco product for several years with very good results but I've not always heard the best reviews of the Coverlay product.

I have been fighting with the plastic dash cover I bought last fall, all week. I wish I had saved my money. I am cooking up something else now.

i had a coverlay on mine for two years, still looked good when I took it off and sent a dash to be recovered in the land down under. I used 3m to hold it down, worked great in the Mississippi heat, no noise.

From what I have seen. The concept looks good, but there doesn't seem to be an adhesive that will work. Keeping it fastened down is the one key area that needs to be developed.
I've seen this same issue pop up (pun intended) with old Detroit iron too.
SEM makes a product for problem plastic which might work.
SEM Problem Plastic Its not cheap though.

Has anybody painted the pod overlay? I'd be interested in it if I could spray it to match the interior.
