Tall People and the 928
I am helping someone purchase a 928.
They have a concern about fitting into the driving position.
He is 6" 4" tall and weighs 220lbs.
The car is a non-sunroof 79.
Will he fit OK - can anyone with a similar physique pass comment please.
Thanks for your help,
Roger
PS: Im short fat and hairy and cant make any recommendations.

Roger... my son is about that size, a couple inches shorter maybe.
He fits the '84 (mit sunroof) ok.
DE Days with a helmet are a problem, 'tho. (I apparently
didn't pound him enough while he was smaller than I).
G'luck.

It depends on where the height comes from. Some people are tall because of long legs and others who are tall have a longer torso. I am 5'-17", 210 lbs and have long legs. I fit in S4/GT & GTS with a sunroof but if I were an inch taller or the car were a bit smaller I wouldn't fit. It's a much tighter fit in the earlier cars with a sunroof probably because the seats are thicker or do not drop as far down. My 78, because it does not have a sunroof feels canvernous there is so much head room and because it does not have the knee bolsters like the GTSs. Given its an early car with no sunroof he will probably fit fine depending on how upright he needs the seat.

I'm 6'-1", 200lbs, with a long torso.
In my '81 with a sunroof, with manual seats bolted to the rear holes of the seat mount, I am bumping the sunroof pan (no headliner). In my old sunroof-less '80 I had a couple inches to spare, to the headliner, with power seats!
Your friend may want to get manual seats, but should fit fine.
Note: '83(?) and older have ~1" taller seat mounts.

Only way to be sure is to sit in it and test drive. I'm 6-2, and can just get my hand between my head and the roof of my '91 GT with sunroof. Thats with the seat all the way down and back. A helmet would be out of the question.
Tight fit, but worth it!

Oh heck Russell, now admit it, you wouldnt care if your head rubbed the roof of your GT! You'd think it was numb from the shear pleasure & joy of driving your new shark!! Hey.. gotta get it in your avatar soon too!

As mentioned body types vary I am LOOONG torso short legs but am very motivated to "fit" in the car. And NO SUNROOF which to me is just about the most useless feature on any car ....wind noise leaks motor cables transmission what a waste plus limited head room and they charge extra for that feature !

I'm 6'4" and a bit north of 220lbs. I'm quite comfortable. Not much clearance between my head and the roof, but enough that I've never hit it.

The non sunroof car will fit.
At 5'18", 205 .... both cars below are a comfortable fit: the '80 layout should be identical to the '79. I have to compress a disc or two in my neck for any sunroof car, either 16v or 32v type - but I still drive them ....
