Thumbs up Good tool at Harbor Freight - Non contact thermometer

FWIW: Check out Non contact thermometer at Harbor. Just picked one up, and seems to do a good job of reading the temp at the block, thermostat, tires, etc.
Just used it to check accuracy of temp gauge, mine sits in upper 3rd quadrant most of the time, with a new 83 thermostat. Tool says 85 deg at base of temp sender, so i'm hoping this is correct!

great for tire temps when you autocross as well.

Bill,
-20 c to 270 c, -4f to 518f, resolution 1deg, accuracy +- 2%, way better that the wet finger test! Worth $40...

Does it work when you point it at chicks to determine their 'hotness'?

Dave: That should be enough. Actually, I already have one of the Raytek ones that cost about $30 more than the HF model, and wanted to see if temp range was an issue.

Ah, OK. If the temp range suits you, then the next most important spec IMHO is the D:S or Distance:Spot ratio. If measuring a 1" spot at 8" distance suits you, then this unit is a great buy!

I agree, If you want real accuracy, forget IR completely and get an industrial strength thermocouple type device, and get better than .1% accuracy ... but the price sure ain't $39.99!

Stay away from Harbor Freight and any other "mainly China" tool distributor.
I bought a tool case from them once and the one I got looked NOTHING like the picture in their catalog. FRAUDs ! They said tough **** and I never bought from them again.
Stop Supporting China Crap !
sorry for the rant....

I tested a Snap On unit that cost 5x's as much on that theory - was not very accurate
