Very nice looking....but pricey! Also they are techincally illegal in CA...but I don't see a 928 getting a ticket for a "ricer" violation....maybe they aren't all black to comply with the german DOT rules? All smoked black would be sweet...but you would get a ticket for sure!

Basically, the law says that if you make ANY illegal modification to your car, the certification for roadworthiness expires. If this is the case, you are in breach of contract with your insurer.
Note: You can modify your vehicle all you want, but you are repsonsible to get the modification approved and properly added to your vehicle's documentation. This is usually not a problem for obvious things, as long as they don't violate the legal requirements for cars in the EU.
A blacked out tail light might not meet the standards, because the lights might get too dim from the modification, while lenses designed to look black might behave differently.
Some modifications - particularly engine mods - are a bit more complicated because dyno and emissions testing is involved, and you might be required to upgrade other, safety relevant parts on the car accordingly. The former is because in Germany liability insurance (min. Euro 1Million) is based on horse power, and registration tax is based on a combination of displacement and emissions.
The good thing is that most modifications are done in a professional manner and you can be quite confident that the other cars you encounter on the road have no modifications that put your life in danger. It's a price Germans pay for unlimited speeds on some stretches of the Autobahn.
Just think about the lowrider or raised truck going 150mph - not something you'd want to encounter. It's neither possible here (because of the speed limit) nor there (because these vehicles would never get certified). Different approach - same result.
