Wow, that is beautiful. Any idea how much power you will be putting to the ground with this? I'm looking forward to some in car video with you hauling a$$.

Has someone put thier Timing Belt cogs through a cad cam machine? Or are they powder coated? Something is wierd.

CIS - very Porsche of your Carl. Take an antiquated technology (Rear engined layout **in your case, CIS** and SHOVE its round peg into the square hole of the computer era.

You are giving up a good 75 or more HP and gobs of drivability and you know it.

I powder-coated the camshaft sprockets.

Yes, I'll keep all informed what happens with the crank scrapers and optional windage tray system.

Rather than make you a video... come to Joliet IL in September and take a ride in this thing!

I'm not sure I agree (obviously). You know, M Benz took CIS up to 450 HP or so naturally-aspirated, so that's the least I should be able to do.

Yes, it would be easier in some respects to go to an electronic injection system and map out a fuel curve a la Fast and Furious. That works, but its been done (to death) and it just isn't me. I'm a little more old-school.

Whatever floats your boat!

I think Megasquirt would suit you just fine from meeting you and your sons Carl. And to be true, a metering plate and varying fuel pressure to deal with load and speed are no match for million of samples per second, with inputs from TPS, AIT, and MAP.

It hasn't been done to death the way you would do it, right?

That thing looks too good to put in a car! It should be mounted on a pedestal in the moddle of a big room with high ceilings, hard wood floors and halogen spots shining down upon it. Maybe even a little plaque below entitled "Visions". This is ARTWORK Carl!

When it runs as good as it looks, I'll be happy. I'm going to try to turn the key this weekend, but its hard to know for sure. Still got some parts being fed Ex'd in here at the last moment (is spite of all my planning), then there's the wife and kids thing....

Thank you for the kind words.

If you are curious, there are more close-up pictures of this engine on this thread:

The 3 liter 934 racing variant of the 911 easily put out 450-500 Hp using CIS however the 935 with little more than a change to mechanical injection put out around 600 hp. One of problems with tuning CIS to modified engines is the shape of the cone where the airflow metering disc floats should be shaped differently to match the needs of the different engines since this has much to do with the fuel curve.

As usual, Jim is dead on - he is the repository of a tremendous amount of Porsche history and knowledge. That man knows his stuff. He corrects my Porsche statements all the time (and I love it).

I hope I can tune this thing in before I have to modify the cone taper of my CIS system, Jim... but I have thought about it!

Tom - excellent report and glad you like the Hypercoil setup. They are pretty darn slick. Now bring that thing to the track on Sept 19th!
