Simple auto trans question
The reservoir on my trans has a little hose that goes from the top of the reservior to the side of the trans case. It is about 5 inches in length and about 4 / 5 mm id. Does anyone know the exact id of this hose. It has no clamps on it so I am assuming that it is not under pressure. Does this hose transfer much fluid or is it for vapor venting only? The hose is cracked and brittle. I am trying to eliminate the source of my fluid leak and this could be a possible source. I replaced the pan gaslet and filter last sunday and I still have a leak while running. I went to the local parts house and they gave me a section of 1/4" trans hose but it was to big. Can I use fuel line hose or does it have to be trans hose. The guy at the parts house said I need trans hose, but it seems like overkill if there is no pressure on this line. Will trans fluid destroy fuel line hose?

Yes it will. You need trans hose, and ideally you would use a metric size. What's the fitting diameter? Don't measure the barb, just the neck of the fitting.

That's a good question. The hose is a vent for the reservoir. It's needed because the fill cap is not vented to atmosphere like the transmission case; so it allows the fluid in the reservoir to seek the same level as in the transmission.
Maybe Steve will chime in on a source. It's not in the PET parts database.
They make a 3.5mm vacuum hose, so it could be 3.5mm I.D. I bought some of that german braded vacuum hose from a seller on eBay, but I wouldn't recommend that for this vent hose.
