Remove the air filter box, top and bottom. Look down. A very short black heater hose goes to the plastic heater valve from the back of the engine and a longer hose goes from the valve to the heat exchanger junction in the windshield cowl area.

A while back - there was some disuccion on using a METAL HV. I found where I saved the info.

avail from napaonline.com Price (a year ago) was $25.99
Part = BK 6601410

Anybody ever try one of these? ANYTHING has to be better then the POS ones we have!

I'm using the metal Audi 5000 heater valve on both my 928S4 and my 944S2. Works great! The Porsche part is only $18 or so mail order but it was nice to get it locally, no shipping, etc. I got one at Autozone and one at NAPA.

For posterity sake here's a pic of the non-OEM quick fix I discovered under the airbox of my '89 (find green hose on left side behind the intake plenum)

You know what I did to stop hot water from circulating through the heater core (after the 2nd replacement vacuum water valve still leaked through) ??? I bought a 1/2" Brass ball valve, and using barbed hose fittings screwed into each end of the ball valve...I cut the longer coolant "return" hose from the heater core/evaporator...and inserted the Brass ball valve along the firewall, just below the air cleaner box. Now, in the summertime...I close the 1/4 turn ball valve, and have an absolutely popsitive shut off of all coolant flow through the heater core/evaporator, and in the winter...its 1/4 turn the other direction and full flow is restored. Now, for those of you "Climate Control purists"...unless you make a slightly open setting of the ball valve, you only have full or max AC, and cannot vary the temperature of the "cooled" air when using the AC, but it really doesn't bother me here in the midwest. ANd if you open the ball valve fully...you still have whatever flow control the OEM vacuum controlled hot water valve will allow, for cabin temperature variation. Works like a charm, and looks perfectly at home there below the airbox and along the fire wall. Handle is off the ball valve, and the stud is sticking sraight up, so I can open or shut the ball valve with needle nosed pliers without removing the air box lid or anything. takes less than 10 seconds...

I did this just after I got the car (warm air all the time). Although it was supposed to be all metal, the housing was metal, but the flap was plastic. So for it works great. YMMV.

Carl @ 928 Motorsports sells them, I bought the Autozone one a few years ago but cannot find the correct part number right now.

I would suggest to stay with Porsche part, a few others on here have had problems with them( metal version) sealing off, and its adding more metal to the system
