Default Question about Floor Mats

Hi all,

My 85 has the original Porsche Mats, that are in great condition, but I want to get a second pair.

My question is this...the mats I have cover the drivers foot rest, and most of the patterns i see out there (Lloydds for example) do not. Does anyone know of any that have the pattern of the orihinal mats?

Thanks!!

Wayne

Wayne, the dead pedal is not really covered by the floormat -- that's part of the carpet kit. If you want to protect it, maybe you can get that piece from a car that's being parted, and cover yours with it?

Your best bet is to make your own patterns and have them made custom for a small additional fee. This company has a great selection of colors and will make to your own pattern:

You can make patterns from brown wrapping/shipping paper, available at any drug store. It comes in wide enough rolls to even make the rear luggage mat.

Dave,

It doesn't seem that way on my car. The carpet kit does cover the dead pedal, and the mat goes over it as well. The mat has PORSCHE emboidered on it, and has mtipe PORSCHE's printed on the back...

My original GTS mats do not cover the dead pedal, I have some lloyd mats that are very good matches to the factory shapes.

Differences: my factory mats have PORSCHE in red porsche font while the lloyds have "928 GTS" in the GTS (tail end) font.

My Lloyds mats do not cover the dead pedal...but there are very high quality at a fair price...even better is the fact that they will custom embrodier anything you want in any color you want on the floormat!

Interesting... thanks for the correction. I have Lloyd's mats, and under those are what I took to be original mats. Either they changed in later years, had different options, or mine aren't original. I bet Nicole could tell...

So which are better, factory mats or the Lloyd mats? Lets say cost wasn't a factor it has to look really nice, not too plush, doesn't fade, doesn't dent under the heel. If anyone is familiar with the OEM MB Mats....soemthing similar would be perfect. Sorry, hope I'm not hijacking here.

Sharkskin,

I wonder if having the dead pedal cover would just cause problems in the long run if your foot tangles in it when you shift? Unless of course if the cover is somehow fixed in place?

Hard to say. The mats that I think are original are that same sort of fine, dense weave that seems typical on these cars. Heavy-duty piping, and they fit perfect. The Lloy's mats fit pretty well, though not perfect and they are a very heavy-duty material. It seems the fibers are a bit coarser on them, and they have shown no signs of denting or fading. I'm happy to have them to protect the original mats, but I don't think they would make an ideal replacement.
