That if you leave a cylinder head with the lifters in place on a shelf for a year, the oil in the lifters will drain out, and when you lift the head off said shelf, that oil will drain all over you, the workbench, and half of your tools?

Smile 81 had an external fuel pump

I had an external pump in my 81. Also, did you know the 81 was the first year for flat dish wheels, front and rear spoilers, and deep bolstered "sport" seats in the United States, without the S motor, and called the "competition package?"

This is kind of fun.

Tom, do you have reference for how to do this? Is it covered in a WSM update?

I think this is a classic internet myth. If there is any truth, the AMC folks were visiting the Porsche and Audi facilities to negoiate using the Audi 100LS/924 engines in the Pacer, saw the design and incorporated it into the Pacer. Back in the days of the AOL auto chat rooms, there was a subscriber that set up a bogus AMC site that started this myth. The site was full of mispellings and dead links but some took it as gospel. BTW that subscriber was later banned from Rennlist.

If you're talking about the site that claims that Lapine was inspired by the Pacer when designing the 928, they refer to an active site 'for more info'. No mention of the Pacer or any colaboration between Lapine & Richard Teague who designed the Pacer is on that site. If anything, it was AMC that emulated or was inspired by the 928 in their design like you say, Dennis.

The site I'm thinking of also claimed the Audi 100LS engine used in the 924 was made by AMC.

Okay, I've seen an 84 with full leather that even all the switches and ***** were leather covered, including the stock radio *****. Not ever seen any buttons or ***** covered in leather on any other Porsche.

Did you know that a technical bulletin warns that the earliest few 32V 85 cars had stickers on the radiator with the wiring order of the distributors wrongly identified? Distributor markings wrong, too.

Did you know that if your wife is not a big fan of riding with you in the 928 (which is my case....) because she says that I can't control myself when I see a good space ahead to accelerate, when she does not have another option and she as to seat on the passenger side of the 928 and you accelerate in second gear to 6000rpm she doesn't talk to you in the next 3 or 4 hours?

Regards
