I looked at pet and it looks like they changed the controller (regulator?) in 1990. Anyone with an 89 have express down? How about anyone with a '90+ Euro?
Nope..my 89GT has the older..hold till down or up etc.....I think they added relays in 90 (all that extra weight and wiring hahaha)..for the express down...and yes...push them...one at a time in order you push and that's how it opens them.
I'm sure it was a legal issue for the express up...many new cars have sensors built in that allow auto up..but will reverse like a garage door..when an obstruction is encountered....Probably not technology they had back in 90 when they did it on the 928.
The GTS opens and closes express..the sunroof opens express, but will not close express. The sunroof has a sensitivity switch which will not allow it to close if there is an object (or arm, head, ***) in the way. These devices are still operational if the ignition is off and a door has not been opened.
Holding the key in the door to lock will automatically close all in succession.... I think you can even get a keyless entry device to do this too.

Good info. Narrowing the scope here!

Yes you can do it - I did it. It's actually quite easy. Hardest part is removing the passenger seat. But it does take a couple of hours to do.

I guess I need to look into that. Mine does not express up but will express down.
Sorry guys been away skiing... too good of late storm to miss. Really glad I wasn't driving the 928 though! needed 4x4 and chains to get up the hill!
So:
Later model window/sunroof modules have express close for the driver side only as an ROW standard feature only. It does not express close the sunroof or the paseenger window. On USA cars this is disabled (Keith - makes me think someone messed with yours... you sure?)
It is disabled for USA cars via a jumper on the module so is readily re-featured. I have not done this yet but its on my list already. The passenger side/drivers side difference is implemented by swaping the inputs and outputs so I'm not hopefull that boths sides could be made to express-up.
The window/sunroof module is under the drivers seat.
The change to the newer window/sunroof module was made in 1990.
Tom M,
Yes I'm sure its for legal reasons, but this later Porsche window module does have current sensing and will cut-out (rather than reverse) if is senses an obstruction. If you want to override this (e.g. if its just a stiff window mechanism for whatever reason) it will override the current sensing cut-out if you hold the button active for >5 seconds.

Checked my 93 last night and the manual clearly states for closing windows and sunroof you must depress switch until closed.
I am going to look under the seat this weekend and see what I can figure out. Thanks
On my '90GT I noticed that the power window controller (J11 on Sheet 3
of the electrical connection diagrams) has a jumper from Pin 2 (BR/RE)
to [13] (BK) with the note "FOR M553 + M 479 PLUGGED". The M numbers
designate models for US-Canada and Austriala. I unplugged the jumper,
and I now have auto-up control for the driver side only - better than
none at all. I still would like to find out how to auto-up the
passengers side, but from the inactivity on this thread, I don't have
much hope.
Anyway, for those of you with the power window brain, a "feature" that
only allows operation of one window at a time, here's a small
consolation.
