okay in that case, the 2002 T/A will get you off the line, but your 86.5 has taller gearing. You will beat him after 100 mph because you can hold 4th gear longer if you have a manual, or 3rd if an automatic.

You should put a serious whooping on him in the curves and in braking.
There is a lot more to racing than straightline acceleration.

Get him in the curves, he will give your shark the respect it deserves.

The SS's and WS6's are crazy fast in straightline acceleration, they always take me by about 3 lengths, rolling or standing start(vs 1.5 lengths for a 'regular'LS1 Z or TA. I can actually beat the LT-1 powered F bodies though).

Chipped an SS would give an S4 a real top end run for it's money too.

They are however solid rear cars with mediocre(compared to a 928S) brakes, and i have absolutely crushed some LS1 F Bodies in the curves.

Get him in the curves and unless he is a significantly better driver than you it should be ugly.

I love our sharks and 86.5 is probably my 2d favorite model, but honestly, an 86.5 would have no chance against an LS-1 Z28 SS or WS6 trans am. Both have a 160mph factory top end(much higher chipped), and both will get there a lot quicker than an 86.5.

LS-1 powered GMs are very worthy opponents, and i am forced to grudgingly admit they can outperform any stock 928(except perhaps a GTS) in all contests of brute acceleration.

My neighbor has an 01 Z 6 speed. With just a RRFPR, Headers, off-road(no cat) exhaust and a cold air intake he's running 12.8s(He was at the track the last time i had my shark there) His eprom isn't even flashed.

Why don't you just ask him why he's always got to rain on your parade ? Then tell him you wish that all it took to make you a better person was to have a faster car, and that if that was the case, then you would assume he was perfect. But that's not the case, is it ?

"Compared to what was being built back then, it was a rocket ship, and it is by no means slow. Bolt a supercharger on and then say its not a rocket ship."
Then bolt a superchargeer on the "newer" car. Someone is always going to have bigger johnson. Go back and read the articles. They never got any respect until the S4's when the auto community finally agreed that this was the car that Porsche should have made from the beginning.

I think Road &Track said it best - "The Trans Am has a 'More aggressive than a used car salesman at the end of the month' front end"...

Don’t take this too seriously, guys smack talk about their cars all the time. It’s mostly light hearted BS and nothing more. The closer the two car specs are, the more interesting the conversations gets.

I still have my ’93 Trans Am (LT1) 6-speed and I can truly say the 928 (even without the supercharger) is a much better car. I know some people praise the LT1 engine, but to me in stock form, it doesn’t seems to be that good of a motor. Maybe this is the reason I haven’t touched the T/A in over a year. Perhaps it’s time to sell her this spring.

I'm one of the 'who cares' crowd. They are making pick ups now that will whip most of us in the 1/4 mile. I love my Porsche's for reasons other than speed, they are classy, fun, well built, beautiful, incredibly stable at high speed, corner like a much smaller car etc.etc.etc.
I love Sharks for what they are, and don't worry about what they aren't

I think guys like this are JUST LIKE guys like us. They love their cars, and to them they're the fastest, quickest, coolest think on 4 wheels. I enjoy discussions and a little competitive banter, and actually getting out there and sometimes winning, and sometimes getting my a$$ handed to me. Been there, done that. No problem, guys like this are fun. The ONLY car people who have caused me grief regarding the 928's power and performance, have been other 928 orners who didn't even know how to spell the name of the cars they were saying would rip my 928 a new one. I don't pay people like that any attention anymore. I now hang out with Ferrari, NSX, Honda, Supra, Subaru, 996, Boxster, Chevy/Ford/Dodge and other fast car owners and I think they are great people. Change your viewpoint, you may find you and he have fun talking cars.

my friend raced a stock TA(ram air) with his stock 3000gt vr-4 and beat him(tiny bit), i raced my freinds vr-4 with my stock 951 and beat him(tiny bit), so a stock 86 951 is faster/same speed as an 02 TA. Depending on what 928 you have you can go from there.

Yes they do! The two major forums for the f-bodies are as good as this one. The true F-body enthusiasts are honest people and they know what the limitations of their cars are. Then there are the idiots.

The atmosphere is more like a combination of the 928, the 944 and a little bit of the OT board combined. The Civic board it the one you want to stay away from. lol
