I hate to rain on your parade, but the overhead cam engines predate the pushrods buy at least a few decades. They were invented before the pushrod engine. The pushrods have their advantages. Lower centre of gravity, lighter, simple in design and they are extremely robust. The fact that even the new C6 uses a pushrod motor is a true testament of how good the original design really is. On the other hand they have there draw back too, but for some reason everyone focuses on the negatives. I’m sure the 928 engines have just as much flaws as the SBC.

I'm with you. "Folks are thirsty in Atlanta and there's beer in Texarkana ..." Have him try that one with you and, remember, no interstates. ;-)
Or Chicago to Seattle. In either race, part of the deal is to get out of the car and stand up straight at the end.

I know DOHC was very early but I don't think that's right. The first internal combustion engines weren't even OHV. And I'm betting sidevalve flatheads predated OHC'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_overhead_cam says that Fiat had the first DOHC in 1912.
Lot's great animations if you look around in wiki.

Yes, but flat heads are not what we are comparing the DOHC to. It’s the SBC (OHC pushrod) vs. the DOHC engine and in that case the DOHC is a lot older design that the OHC pushrod V8. Not that it really matters.

Who said anything about ahead? My theory was that the car he raced was probably a V6 with the SS or WS6 spoiler package and not a real V8. A stock 951 WILL NOT beat the LS1 powered F-body, it would not beat the LT1 powered F-body either in a straight line.
As for the all mightily 350Zand G35 goes, I had many of them beat on the highway and from a stop (all I had was a chip set, nothing more). The G35 coupe is a very nice car, I love the sounds of the tail pipe and one day I’ll probably even buy one. However they should be faster to live up to their image.

okay stock to stock yes it wont over power a ls1. but with minor i mean minor bolt the 951 would hand any unboosted 928 or ls1. 320rwhp is very very within reach without breaking the budget.
but honestly what posters 951 is stock that whats to go fast. if your racing your gonna mod it. and if you never gonna mod your 951 then your not into going faster than ***-bodies and 350zzzzzzzzzz.

Lance, Apples to apples man. What do you consider “without breaking the budget”? $2500, $3000, $4000 or more? Let’s say $3000 in engine upgrades (Turbo, Intercooler and boost controller maybe even a waste gate) on a 951 will get you there. Now spend the same amount on the car you want to compare it with (a Camaro or T/A in this case). Do you still think the 951 will be faster? I wouldn’t.

okay heres the link to the thread he still running stock turbo

heres the link to his video site

i think hes not so bright for not block his plates and face but nonetheless he has a k26/6 with some work but for a stock turbo to take a modded ls1 is pretty good

About the TA
I had three of the new Firebirds... great cars for the money... drive them hard and they dont squeak after a while, unlike many other American cars... strong like our 928's. Did you know what they used to benchmark the braking? They wanted to equal the 928! With the traction control and Blizzacks they are even great in the snow... however...
They still are not the material quality of the 928... steel that will eventually rust, plastic doors and fenders, and teh interior materials will look 30 years old far before their time... that's why I now have 928's instead of Firebirds
