Many have suggested they wish it was a 2-day event for the amount of driving to get there they may have to do.

Although we cannot afford to rent a racetrack for 2 consequitive days - I think we can do this: how about we have a Monday evening get together at the Hotel?

We could even do some of the driver's training sessions at that time (classroom style) so that Tuesday at the track we can just get to it.

The little talk I am giving is how to select the right line in a corner - I have given it before (I am a Driver's Instructor at Midwest Council of Sports Car Clubs) so I know that - depending on the number of questions asked - its about a 30 minute talk with a 30 minute Q&A period after.

We could do that Monday night, and also go over what the plans are for Tuesday, and a chat about Tech Inspecting your cars to prepare them for the track time.

Depending on when Mark Anderson gets there - we could also do his talk Monday night. Or not. Whatever you guys like.

Howz that sound?

whitefox - I have to ask the racetrack - I know you need to be 16+ to ride along, but I do not think they told me how old a driver has to be. I will check on it and get back to you.

larry928GTS - now I understand what you were getting at.
drbob - seems to be thinking along those lines, Fly in, rent a car, insure the crap out of it, beat on it, drop it off, fly home. Yes, we would allow rentals at this event. Can you rent a Corvette or a Viper? (Speaking of Corvettes, Connie McNabb - the one you speak to when you call - may bring her 1980 Corvette down to play with us.)

oldtee - I'll have a set of tools on hand, and there will be plenty of knowledgable people to lend a hand if you need it. But you won't need them!

Carl,
It's a great idea, too bad I'm so far away. Good luck with the event.

Default Event Update:

whitefox: I have permission from the steward of the track to allow you to drive the event as long as you have an instructor in the car with you.

Hotels: there are a number in the area - and all are good.

I've landed on the Harrah's Casino and Hotel because: it'll give you something to do Monday afternoon if you get there early, and they have secure, indoor overnight parking for your 928.

Rooms start at $49 a night....

I have a call in to the convention manager now to see if I can get a Banquet room setup Monday night - then we can go over some track stuff and a little drivers instruction and such....

Now our 1-day event has become a day-and-a-half!

Tim Murphy will be there and will be bringing AT LEAST 1 supercharged 928 with him, and possibly two (one Stage 1 unit, one Stage 2 unit). And YES, he will be giving rides...

Carl,

A social event would be great at night. How about a tech session/shop tour one day back at your shop. Your building really looks nice.

Default New Hotel/Meeting Info

Thank you! I'd love to do that but our facility is about 3.5 hours away from the Autobahn track where the event is. Actually, I am only about 1 hour from Road America - Elhart Lake WI (my first love)

I'd love to have the event there, but, you cannot even THINK about renting Road America for a day for a samll event unless yo have a very large group or very deep pockets!

Harrah's called me this afternoon - nobody can stay there with kids, no one under 21 allowed, and strictlky enforced. So they are out.

I reserved us: 20 Kings and 30 Doubles at the Holiday Inn Joliet for Monday Night the 18th, where they have a restauraunt on the premises and a pool. Kings or Doubles both rent for $89.99 a night. We will have a Banquet Room Monday night and will be able to have a social hour, plus discuss how to Tech Inspect your 928 before a track event, and roundtable other 928 maintenance and driving topics with all the experts on hand.

That's great. I also got a call tonight from Rick Olah in Duluth MN. He wants to come down with his 928-powered Porsche.

...notice I didn't say it was a 928. Its a 914 with a 928 engine and transaxle!

Holy Hot-Rod, Batman! That'll be something to see!

That's quite a beast... I saw it when it was on it's first circuit of the West coast -- I hope to see it again now that he's ironed out so many of the issues.

First pass at the wife was DENIED! I'll try again in a week or so, when she's not expecting it.

I couldn't make it Saturday so I was going to try and shoot out there Sunday but I had stuff to do early that day and later in the day I decided it wasn't worth the couple hours I would've been there.

My TB was on the loose side and I had a developing vacuum leak (now a major vacuum leak) as well as 2 Ripped CV boots and 1 CV boot about to rip. She is up on stands getting her much needed repairs.

Default Update - Monday Car Show Added

By popular demand - we added a Monday event!

The Manager of the Holiday Inn (where we have a block of 50 rooms reserved) has allowed us to quarter off one end of the Parking Lot so all the 928's can park together.

Then - what the heck - lets have a car show!

This will be setup and Managed by Connie McNabb of our office - she and her husband are car show people.... they campaign their 71 Chevy Camaro RS/SS and her 1980 Corvette C3 at regional shows, and have experience running car shows too.

We decided to keep this a simple single-model show, casual and easy. More fun and not too serious. Anyone who wants to put their 928 in the show Monday afternoon may do so for a $10 entry fee (Pre-registered) or $15 fee the day of the show. The Car Show begins at 2:00 p.m. Trophies to be awarded at 5:00 p.m. All vehicles taking part in the show, must be registered before 3:00 p.m.

Trophies will be awarded for these class:

Best Stock 16v 928
Best Stock 32v 928
Best Modified 16v 928
Best Modified 32v 928
Best in Show
Longest Distance Traveled

Participant Voting means participants vote for any vehicle but their own in each class.

This should be a LOT of fun! Please contact Connie McNabb at Connie@928motorsports.com if you have any questions.
