1995 928GTS 5spd. I think this is the worst because some of us may be afraid of taking it out of the garage. I would probably be one of those, but for a short time. There are what, 30?

I have a hard time determining that a particular year is good or bad. It is more an issue of the condition of each individual car now that they are ALL old cars !

I imagine the worst year 928 is still probably better than the best year... I dunno, triumph TR7? That said, as I have an 84 Euro, I'll personally stay away from that year, simply because in 85 they switched to the more modern fuse panel, and I've witnessed the horrors of what can go wrong with a bad federalization.

Lets say we are comparing each year of 928 when they are brand new. Which year had the least amount to offer for options, HP etc.

I love the old buggers, but the 78 928s had CIS, very little power (today's standards), very skinny tires, and vac operated door locks (?) - today all those things are liabilities.

Compare it to cars in 1978, and things are very different. 911SC had, what 180 hp? A 1978 Ford Sedan weighed 5000 pounds or more, and had a 250hp Big block. And then there was Disco....

The 87-88 S-4 gets you the biggest bang for the buck especially a 5 speed.

And the most realistically upgradable. It also looks a bit more modern.

86.5 has by far got to be the worst year. It has just enough hp to wet your appetite, but not enough to satisfy the truly hungry. It is almost an S4 but still gets left out of some of the cool new widgets and gadgets, like the sharktuner and supermaf. It has a semi upgradeable engine but the engine management is again lacking. Has just got to be the worst year. Imagine going to the dealer and buying a brand new one for $50k in June or July, then a couple months later you go back in for routine service item and lo and behold they got an S4 sitting there with all these cool upgrades with the latest and greatest of the widgets and gadgets.

That said, I love 'em and will always have one or two (maybe three) in my shop, and would pit them against any other model performance wise.

In some ways like the least expensive house in a nice neighborhood... with wheels and tires ,mirrors to maybe 99.99 % of the people the 87 looks the SAME as a GTS.

I would say the ones with the defective 5.4L motors(unless you are made of $), or the US pre S models(lack of power).

Oddly enough, of all the 32v motored cars, i would pick an 86.5 over any of the others.
