It was a high 13 sec car that I drove to an indicated 150 mph, stock was 0-60 6.5 sec 14.8 qtr mile, 130 top speed. It handled well, especially for cars of that era, very "tossable" in the corners but interesting torque steer. The Omni GLHS is a car I wouldn't mind owning again.
I forgot all aobut the Shelby Turbo Chargers.

Weren't many around, and most of them did not last(not the best build quality, to be sure), but yes, they were very quick cars.

Some of the Maserati Bi-Turbo Spyder's were pretty fast too. My old man had one of those back in the late 80s. LOL, that car was wickedly fun when the boost made your **** meet the seat.

There were also the 89 Turbo T/As with the Buick 3.8SFI turbo motors. Definitely out of the 928s league wrt straightline acceleration, though it topped out at 160 vs the S4s 170+.

Don't feel bad bro. My old man had an all original candy apple red 1963 Split window coupe, 327-375hp, 4spd, with genuine knock-offs and the factory sidepipes that he sold somewhere around 1985 for a mere 20k bucks.

Same car is EASILY worth over a quarter million now. LOL....ouch.

Yes, ouch! That would be a solid lifter fuelie (L84), although 63 would be 360HP (moved to 375 in 64). Regardless, BIG ouch!

In a race between a Vette and a 928, it seems that newer vette drivers now need to factor in the time it takes them to go back and find thir roof...

Twin stripers going into third? Maybe second, but not likely unless it was a euro. He would have been doing about 70 in front of his house going from 2nd to 3rd.

Perhaps 3rd gear scratch (hell...even a bark)...but certainly not "smoking tires" in 3rd gear. Good story though.

PS...the AARs from 1970, were 340 cars. So...if thats what your "neighborhood friend" picked up...it was a 340 6 pack car rated at 290 HP SAE... FYI
I'm glad somebody caught this; good job.

Also, I can't get a chirp out of my GT in 3rd let alone 'stripes'; I wonder if the rest of his post(s) are as accurrate as this one?

I know my 87 S4 can pull atleast a car length on a C5 Corvette from 40-80, I wouldnt want to play with the C6 though.

the only cari ever had that would lay down 3rd gear stripes is my old Hen Viper picutred to the right. IN fourth i could chirp but that was dangerous. The vipers 1st gear was useless at WOT 2nd gear wasnt much better but you could bet you could count on the wheel spin to end.

I was looking at the F C Kerbeck ad in todays Phila Inquirer. Kerbeck is our local Aston, Lambo Bentley dealer as well as their bread and butter Cadillac agency. They ran their exotic ads today and it was hilarious to see nestled among some fine machinery two ads. One for a 57 Bel Air convertible and the other for a 56 Ford convertible. They were asking 75K and 45k RESPECTIVELY. This was more than for some of the exotics they had listed.

Has nobody seen a "Ferrari dissappearing act"? Has nothing to do with getting off the line quickly, but rather pinning it and getting through the gears with as much smoke as possible. It's nothing but a grandstanding tactic and 3rd is typically where you let it ride out until it bites. Obvously, if he ran through each gear he'd be hard pressed to get much out of 2nd gear at all.

Swaybar - guess your reading is challenged, since you didn't catch the clarification to Jeff's comments. The Cuda wasn't my car, so I'm not vouching for accruracy of the AAR/HEMI look, but it WAS a 383 with NOS...Jeff correctly pointed out that it couldn't be a HEMI if it was a 383. Okay, I'm not a Chrysler fan. Chock this one up to Z28's that were really an RS with Z28 garb, whatever, it looked like the model the guy said it was and I'm sure he eventually found out it wasn't. Please don't question the accuracy of my posts.
