These pictures show newly polished valve cover with the self-adhesive raised letters that Nicole has recently offered for sale. I'm very pleased with the results.

Not clear-coated, just polished. Same as my wheels. It's so much easier to repair any damage, that way.

The reason he asks about clearcoating, is that polished aluminum oxidizes,
and once you get those covers on the car, it will be a lot harder to keep them
polished. If you clearcoat them, it will keep the air from getting to them,
and they will last longer without oxidizing.

I've seen clearcoated polished wheels last a long time,
but I wonder if the clearcoat would hold up ok to the
engine heat? Anyone? Bueler?

 

Clear engine paint. Available at the local TrueValue. Seems to be working ok on my '89.

 

What are the letters made of? Will they take the heat?

Very nice! CLEAR COAT THEM!!! My engine components are clear coated and they look as good as the day I got them back over a year ago....even the thermo housing! Stands up to heat just fine. I promise you that if you don't coat them, you will be hating life within a month!

 

Awesome. Who did them, and how much did they cost, if you don;t mind my asking?
BTW, Eastwood sells a product called Zoop Seal. It's a surface sealant for polished aluminum that keeps it from oxidizing, without covering the polished metal with a coating. It's supposed to be great on alum wheels as well. It's not cheap, but neither was the money/time put into those valve covers. cheap.

They were polished by a local outfit called the Shine Shop. $95 per cover.

How did you glue the letters on? I would think the engine heat will get to them if there are the letters intended for the rear bumper cover. Amazing they are the same size letters.

 

BTDT! they do great work! Kind of a run down place but they did miracles on a set of CS rims that I had.

Id almost like a set like that just to hang on the garage wall!
I would love to get a trashed 5L block polished the same way! make an awsome coffee table with pistons and rods out the top!

I will have a set of take-offs, naturally.
I paid $150 for the pair I have just had polished, and $190 for the polishing. The letters were about $65, I think. So I could let you have a set for $405, plus shipping, if you wanted. Then you would have your own take-offs, with which you could re-coup some of your outlay.
