no no, thats not my table. I saw it on line a few years ago and put it the "want to do " folder. Imagine a 5L block all poished...rods and pistons supporting the glass in the same way

how will the lettering/adhesive hold up to the engine heat?

I'm assuming these are the Jager letters. I emailed them about a month ago with the same question. The response was:

"All our lettering have an industrial 3M backing. The combination of heat and excellent prep results in a very durable bond which will not be affected by normal wear and tear. And yes our tests have shown that they withstand the heat of the engine quite well."

And I was thinking, ok, here's a guy that has really trained his wife to appreciate the finer things in life. Why go to pottery barn when you can build your own furniture!!!

One of my Dad's buddies (really into cars) built a wine rack out of a Jag V-12 engine block.

He took the block, Painted it green, took a nice piece of oak and rowtered Jaguar into the wood. Allen bolted it where the intake was. Did a nice oak base where the flyweel would be, stood it up and made a wine rack out of it.
It was so friggen cool that I've always wanted to do one out of the 928 Block.

Still working on my wife for that one!

I think what he has are aluminum covers. The castings are just too good to be magnesium.

And seem to recall that unlike the 928's magnesium covers, the 4 valve 944s have aluminum covers, which can be used on a 928.

So, does anyone know a good source/vendor for used aluminum covers?

The covers I had polished are magnesium, not aluminum.

I've polished magnesium before (for my RC cars). After getting a mirror shine, they would stay that way for about 2 weeks. A film (oxidation) would then develop. If left untouched, it became a flat gray color. The only way I was able to keep the parts from oxidizing was to use a clear coat (paint).

The humidity also palys a big part. If the magnesium get wet or is in a high humid climate, the oxidation process will only accelerate.

Yesterday, I was watching Trucks (on Spike) and they spoke about a treatment for coating bare aluminum. The product is applied using a clean rag. The product keeps the metal oxidation free for 2 years.
