I found an interesting set of Porsche Wheels on eBay recently for a reasonable cost, probably given that they are a little beat up. I'm not sure what they came off of, but one of the 911 derivatives or one of the later day SUV's or such. They are 18 by 8 and by 10 with close enough offsets for the 928, or one of mine at least. They caught my attention mainly because of what I see as a family resemblance to the historic Fuches wheels. I plan to take them to y Alloy Wheel Pros in Colorado Springs for recondition and refinish, but including a little bit of customizing to resemble the Fuches a bit closer. They will be spun to be sure of trueness, of course and will end up with a beautiful kind of unique finish that I think will be outstanding. I'll post pictures when they are done. I'm going over there next week with them.

This phonedial setup worked great on this car - now owned by another member. 16x7 et 65 on the fronts (928 fitment) and 16x8 et 23.3 on the rear (944 turbo fitment). Centers custom painted pearl white to match the car and lips polished.
Never chrome...Super heavy which effects all aspects.od vehicle.dymanics. For that look you need to do fully polished aluminum.
I vote for choice C, none or the above. Lots of good 16"-18" wheel choices that will both look better and perform better. If you like the BBS, then silver with polished lip would look great on that car, but that's just my opinion...
Gee, I'll change my mind and my wheels right away... What is it they say about opinions? I really don't know how much closer to the performance edge I need to get by stripping the chrome off of my wheels.

The difference in unsprung wheel weight is significant as it relates to vehicle dynamics. I removed chrome wheels from my 997 and replaced them with lightweight forged wheels, saving 10 lbs per wheel, and it felt like a different car. Then I swapped from Big Red iron brakes to PCCBs and it happened again. Taking 15 lbs of unsprung weight from each corner makes the car accelerate and brake better, react to steering inputs better and faster, and allows the suspension to work better. It's just physics.
More and more, I am appreciating the look of polished or chromed sewerlids/manholes/gullideckels for my spaceship. Though I still find these AZEV Type B to be the coolest wheels:

Perhaps its the net difference between your stock and lightweight wheels that made the difference.
It's possible, but the forged wheels were also 1.5" wider than the chromed wheels, which were genuine RUF wheels, so they weren't stock wheels and were also forged as all RUF wheels are - the difference was the chrome. I don't know, but I've never picked up a light set of chrome wheels.
Chrome plating does add weight but not that much. Although Chrome plating is never a good idea on wheels. It covers cracks and can create corrosion under the surface if damaged. The factory never offered Chromed wheels in any form for a reason.
They did use a special paint which was supposed to simulate a polished or chromed wheel on the 993 Turbo S. I run my stock cup I's on my GTS but on my track and street performance cars I run Fikse's or BBS e88's. The unsprung weight savings is clearly noticeable.
