Default Electrical Problems

When attempting to splice in a "fighter pilot" style switch into my kickdown I at some point touched the wires together in a wrong way and the result is:

Relay V is buzzing, I have no instrument panel readings, Kickdown doesn't work, relay V stops buzzing when turn signals are in use.

I attempted to replace relay V with a relay from
the local Advanced Auto Parts with no avail. What did I do? and more importantly how can I fix it?

Check all of your fuses first.

Which leads to a note - always disconnect the battery before you work on the car.... I even ended up installing a battery cut-off switch because I do this so often.

Anyway you can pretty conveniently undo the wingbolt for the ground strap (if you have one) or on later cars unbolt with wrench - its still pretty quick to do - faster than replacing a fuse anyway!

Yes, check your fuses. Remember that they can be bad without looking bad. As far as the relay. The one you got from the store is probably a direct replacement. But usually you can swap out a relay from another circuit for test purposes. I don't have my fuse and relay diagram handy but you can find one at 928 specialists site.

Good luck Ross. I hope you get it fixed before this weekend. Are you still planning on attending the Shark Shiver?

Note - the gauges are fused by the interior light fuse too.

Well Fuse #10 was the trick, now to get that switch wired in the right way!

Fabio I still plan on attending the Shark Shiver, hope you don't mind a kid.
