Default Interesting filter test / comparison

Stolen from the 944 forum, figured this group might find this interesting:

cool. good late night reading tonight!

thats why i never change the filter in the Tahoe or the BMW. the air gets cleaner that way!
Ha. (and who cares about power in those two cars!)

I hadn't realized that hadn't been posted before. I saw that years ago. Interesting testing and results.

Am I missing something? What exactly is news here? I thought it was common knowledge that paper filters are far superior to aftermarket filters. And like everything else, it's a compromise when you want more air through the filter (and more dust with it)...and to some, the airflow and therefore performance gains are well worth the risk of pushing debris through the engine

I hate it when people draw charts to exaggerate a point. The first chart makes a 3% efficiency difference look huge because they don't show you where zero is. some of the other charts are similarly exaggerated. The accumulative gain, dust loading, etc. charts make the point clear enough without resorting to exaggeration. Oh, I'm a paper filter proponent, and wouldn't want a foam filter on a driver. Just a peeve....
