Rain Leaks (rear hatch)
#16
And as is mentioned here, the big hatch seal itself is a problem for many - it gets crushed and stays that way, and then hardens.
But the glass-hatch seal is an issue as well.

I corrected the rubber by watching the hatch close and forcing the rubber to seat properly with some thin cardboard junk mail. Worked. About the interior trim you need to remove and wet and then use weights. Works.

Porsche, the company, and the 928 the car, are great - mechanically. Electrical, HVAC, window sealing, and tactil feeling on many surfaces, are, uh, lacking is a good word.
Along with the glass sealing issue - since when do you CLAMP glass with a metal anything?

Hi all about the rear hatch seal leaks , there is one thing that has not been noted, that is to replace the sealant that is in the channel of the hatch seal itself.Anyway when I removed my seal I saw a white dried out substance in the seal channel. This looks like a factory sealant that when it was new would add to the water tightness of the seal, I got some Dowcorning 111 non setting sealant and put it into a syringe and injected it into the seal before putting it back onto the car as well as crimping the seal with my hands to make the channel a little tighter before installing the seal, no leaks. My guess about the rear hach lock leaking is that with the S4 spoiler it helps keep the lock cylinder out of the rain, I would remove the lock cylinder and put some of the DC111 on it and reinstall that should help with a water leak, Stan

I chased a water leak for a long time, even put in a new rear quarter window seal that did not do any differnce. It turned out that water was leaking throught one of the bolts for the rear hatch hinges. Put some sealer on the bolt, put it back in, an no more leaks. - A five minute fix!

Talk to about any 944 or 968 owner. The hatch glass separates on many/most of them and it's a difficult permanent fix. The 968/944 listserves have lots of info on this since delamination is so common in the rear deck glass. Don't know about the 928...mine's still tight...so far....but I don't live in Seattle either.
Good luck,

I have the same warping problem in front by the windshield and back by the hatch. I have to replace the seal on the hatch and try to figure out if my windsheild is still leaking. (The damage to the interior dates back to before I got the car). I really don't want to have to replace the headliner if I can avoid it. Anybody have any luck repairing the warpage?
