I could loan you mine if there is no one locally that has one. Rest assured, it is good and has found things I would never have found without it. For instance, it gave me "rear knock sensor broken" plus "Hall sensor missing" error messages once. This lead me immediately to think about the connector under the passenger fuel rail cover - sure enough, it had come apart. It alerted me to a miswired repair on the throttle switch with a helpful error message. Send me a PM with your address.

I personally vouch for Bill's spanner....the 87-88 adaptor works perfect too...found my slack throttle cable was causing a WOT fault? Tightened the cable and all is good! Its one of those things you have to use every now and again!

Yes, and I should note Brian donated the 87-88 adapter for our use, personally buying it from John Speake and giving it to me.

Guys,

thanks for the assistance. I am really fond of John's work (I have already purchased one of him MAF units from 928Intl) after many people said good things and my friend at work Alan Moore put one in him GTS and praised it. My car runs WAYYYY better with the new unit. As far as the spanner is concerned, i wanted to compare it to the Hammer and see how it operates and how good it is before i invest $700 before i buy one. I will be moving overseas in the summer and knowing that the dealerships back home suck and no one knows how to work on the 928, i have already bought the manual set, bookmarked my rennlist as well as a million other site as i know i will need them. I will always count on my fellow rennlisters as well as good support from JDS and our suppliers to keep my car running for a while
Thanks guys for your swift responses I look forward to seeing it in action as i will cut John a check soon for the updated chips and the spanner.
Bill i will PM you.

Sincerely,
Khaled

Khaled
The spanner is very helpful.....the Hammer does a couple things the Spanner does not.....the Hammer can reset airbag faults & cycle the PSD which the Spanner doesn't....but since you have an 87 thats not a problem....another factor in the 87 is unless you have an upgraded LH...87's don't store fault codes like the 88's and later do.... I also think the hammer will only hook up to the 89 and later cars with the diagnostic port by the passenger seat? Only the spanner will work on the 87-88's, or the original porsche tool?

Another neat feature on the Spanner is it doesn't use any batteries! It pulls its power directly from the LH hookup! Its simple to use and only has one button!

Hi Khaled,
Brian is correct - you must fit the 88 S4 or later LH and EZK EPROMs to enable the diagnostics.
