Default Sunroof drainage channel blocked.

My GTS is leaking through the sunroof because of a blocked driver's side (RHD) front drainage channel. I have tried pushing some strimmer wire through but it won't go trough the last bit.
Does anyone know where the channel comes out - I might try working from the bottom up. And secondly could I do any damage rodding it through with thickish fencing wire?
Thanks for your help.

Fencing wire will very likely damage the drain, as the drain has a plastic tube slipped over the metal tube. You also don't want to apply compressed air to the drain, as it can pop the plastic tube off the metal inside the windscreen post - not a good thing!

The drain comes out in the front fender well area, behind the liner, in LHD cars - don't know how different yours would be.

If any work has been done in the fender area, the plastic tube could be pinched shut.

Try using the heaviest "string trimmer" cord that you can get to clear the drain. Here, we can get square trimmer cord in 0.105" size, and that works great when spun using a variable-speed drill motor.

Try compressed air. Witht he aid of a helper, you should then be able to locate the other end of the drain.

I poured some water into my RHD car's sunroof to test the drains. The right side drain emerges near the rear of the front right wheel well. Behind the plastic liner. The left sides seems to be plumbed differently. It drains from the rear of the cruise control actuator compartment. Near the firewall. As ever Wally is a source of infinite wisdom. You might try hammering to flatten the bottom end of the strimmer cord a bit.

what about shooting water down it with a pressure washer?
either fix your leak or make it worse

Thanks guys - went with Wally's suggestion (not for the first time!) and it worked a treat. Watertight once more (essential here in the UK!)
Cheers

If weed eater line won't go through then Wally is right ... any work in driver fenderwell will have pinched it shut. Btdt.

Hi!
I am new to the list! I have read it for awhile though and I am happy to finally be posted here! My name is Michael. I have a 928 GTS 5 speed and a S4 project car that I recently bought in southern Germany. I live in Sweden but I travel alot especially in the East. My S4 is stock, but my GTS is being supercharged! Its been a very long and expensive project, but I am looking for a very happy ending soon....

Vancouver,

My wife if from Cheddar in Somerset (home of the cheese) but we now live in Gloucestershire (part of the Cotswolds) which is the next county up towards London. But it's wet everywhere in the UK!

Cheers

Ahhh!
I was living in a small town called bruton, not too big only three pubs - it's north of Yeovil and south of Bath/bristol - if you have any idea where this is.
quite the experience, was staying in what was formerly a mill, and I enjoyed it very much - even better was the use of a 2000 boxster at my disposal!
